I'm Carol and I'm an alcoholic. Welcome to MIP board. It's a great place to be and it really helps my recovery. I pop by several times a day and read and post as much as I want.
I go to two/three AA meetings each week and make time to sit and read every morning from Big Book. When I first stopped drinking I tried to keep myself as busy as possible and to keep away from anywhere where I might be tempted to drink again. I also remembered to think about doing it all for just one day at a time and that really helped.
Take care and let us know how it is going for you, won't you?
Carol

Welcome Dave! My name is Tim and I'm an alcoholic. This is a great place to come on your breaks during a busy day and I also check in several times a day. There are a lot of inspirational postings here that I find help keep my mind on the sobriety track when I don't have time to get to a meeting.
You asked for tips? There's plenty in previous posts and there will surely be more in new ones. Go to meetings. General rule of thumb is 90 meetings in 90 days to get you started, and more if you feel the need. Get yourself a sponsor who has some good sobriety behind him to help give you tips on how he and others have stayed sober. Get a copy of the 'Big Book" of A.A. and go through the first 164 pp. There are meetings called "Big Book studies" where a group reads and discusses what's been read. They're great for helping understand the writings.
There's plenty more, but the best tip is: DON'T DRINK! Don't give into the cravings. Go to a meeting if you have the time or come here instead.
Good fortune to you in your endeavor and don't be a stranger!...Tim

Hi I'm an alcoholic named Bob. Want to know how to stay sober. By a AA Bigbook and read it. Attend AA meeting and don't drink inbetween meetings. Get an AA Sponsor (Mentor) and work the steps. Share the message with the alcoholic who still suffers.
