My sponsor had me write out the passages from the Big Book from page 60---"Being convinced..." to page 63---"We were now at Step three"  replacing all of the "we and us"  with "I and me"....  writing it from my perspective.  It was enlightening.  As I wrote out things like "I am self centered"   "I became angry, indignant, self-pitying"   I felt the truth to these words.  It is easy for me to read these things as "we" and not really have it sink in that I am reading about ME.  I am this actor who wants to run the show.  I think it is important that it is we in the book because it's good to feel not alone but for me I needed to do this exercise.  For me it brought about some humility which I really needed...... It helped me a great deal.

Have a great sober Sunday!

That's a great idea, Iffer!!

Sometimes I do read the we's, with a sense that there is 'safety in numbers'... but I do need to acknowledge that I am selfish, I am inconsiderate, I...  and take ownership. Thanks for sharing this exercise with us!!

Hi Jen,

Thanks for a really wonderful idea. I can see that it really would be so enlightening.

It is something that I definitely need to do. I am so good at applying the word "we" to meaning other people but certainly not me. I guess I don't like to accept that I do become 'mean, egotistical, selfish and dishonest.' I work hard not to be, but I know that I don't always succeed.

Take care and have a super, sober Sunday.

Carol
