me again, just wanted to ask your opinion on something from your perspective and in your experience kindda thing.
thing is i as you know have been told not to stop drinking as the withdrawals could meke me rather ill, but i use to drink more and over a longer period of time and just stoped, and was fine.
this time round i have only been 'binge' drinking for about 6-7 weeks now and not drinking the same strength beer it's only 4% but i have been drinking during the day, but now i'm drinking by 9-10 in the mornings as the withdrawals are starting to kick in and i'm basicly drinking through fear now, i no longer enjoy it, i rearly get 'drunk', i', sweating constantly unless i'm drinking and it's not right at all, i hate it but i think now i'm actually drinking more than i was before they told me to cut down coz i drink so much, ie: 6 cans, they wear off a little while latter and then the withdrawals start all over again so then i drink again to combat them , i'm just so stuck.
but what i want to know is, have any of you just stoped and if so with what affect? we any of you advised not to just stop?
i wanna stop now i don't want to do thins anymore i hate it it's desgusting, but i'm so frightend of what 'may' happen.
if any of you have any ideas on what i should do then please let me know.
The Progression of these Disease. You wanted our personal views, on your situation, and my view is that if you are starting to feel so much fear around the detox part, then finding outside help, good Professional AA help.
This also, in my opinion would be a great subject to bring up at a Meeting. So many of us have different experiences, and surely someone at a meeting could give some solid advice, as in, Been there, Done that.
But to find out the nature of your fear, is it a healthy valid fear, or is it just the Disease trying to trick you into not stopping, a very baffling, incideous Disease that we all share Flumpy.
That is why I encourage you to ask a Professional these questions, A Pro in the field of Recovery. They could help in getting to the source of the FEAR.
Good to see you here this morning, and am sorry that you are suffering right now.
This guy who was my sponsor last year had an experience with this. About a month ago his brother quit cold turkey and ended up in the hospital with some serious dt's, seizures, and such. It was really scary for my friend. He wasn't sure if his brother would regain his faculties and still have a brain afterwards. Luckily he seems to be doing okay. Not sure if he is drinking or not though.
Scary stuff.
My personal suggestion---find a rehab that has a detox and just go!
Life will get better if you do the next right thing.
I really would seek a professional opinion on cutting down and detoxing. Perhaps, if you have a really good GP, you could be honest about your drinking with him/her and see if he/she can refer you on.
When I stopped drinking, I just stopped. There was no way that I could have cut down. I had been trying that for years and getting nowhere. I was drinking about three bottles of wine between early afternoon and into the evening, each and every day. I was frightened of quitting, but I was more frightened of carrying on drinking. I had the shakes and was sweating dreadfully. I also had a really bad headache and couldn't sleep properly. But, I persevered and I was fine.
But, everyone is different. So, I really would encourage you to seek professional help.
Take very good care of yourself, won't you?
Carol
