All I can tell you is I have developed a very bad habit of eating a very large bowl of ice cream every night while watching re-runs of Sex and the City

It's funny I should be reading this while eating out of a half-gallon of ice-cream with a root beer next to it! It was so hot at work all day that I just wanted to eat something cold to cool down. One thing I've found out is that hot coffee and a hot factory don't mix too well!
Guess I'll just have to suffer 'cause I ain't giving up my coffee!
Ya' know, I can never seem to get around to 'eliminating' stuff from my life until it starts to hurt enough... Like my gallbladder last week.... have given up greasey fried food now only because I had to....
Well I gave up Sugar, about 2 months ago, lost 10 pounds, and feel so much better, I do have an occasional bowl of ice cream, just like Justin, for the heat, to cool my body off.
Maybe I should say I cut back on sugar, 90 %, that feels more accurate, but no major withdrawals, just feel better.
I was getting sick and tired of being sick and tired of the internal roller coaster of 4 cups of coffee, and then may 4 7ups a day. The sugar content in soft drink is astonishing, and I just added up in my head what the 2 spoons of sugar, with each cup of coffee, and then the 7ups, and it was feeling kind of scary to me. What did the final trick was I went onto NIH.gov, and was reading about the Diabetes that can develop in people that have a strong need for so much sugar, I printing out one of the Articles and put it up, on my Frig. And there had been a lot of Advertising on Television here, like a blitz of ads, that were warning Parents of keeping Sugar out of the Children's diets, because of the danger of early Diabetes.
Good old Fear, made me make the Decision to cut back 90%. And it worked. Now if I have a real craving for sugar, I eat an orange, or an apple or banana, that are all high in natural Sugar, and don't have the same effect on the body, but they do the trick with cutting the craving.
Just wanted to share my experience with the Refined Sugar. There is a paperback book, that I have, never really read it, did not want to, called "The Sugar Blues". That is on the subject of Refined Sugar, and what it does to the body. Maybe now, I am willing to read it.

PS. had to add something this morning, early recovey, the first 2 or 3 years, or however long it may take, I do also believe the detox process of Alcohol, does need the temporary substitute of a sugar replacement. Keeps the Cravings DOWN. You cannot get a DUI, from a Snickers and a couple of Cokes.
Timely subject that impacts us all. I have struggled with sugar most of my life. An addiction is an addiction. I did read that if you grew up in an alcoholic home you may lean towards fixing yourself with sugar.
Right now, in early sobriety, all I want is fat and sugar and lots of it-caffeine too. But I guess that's normal. I'll wait a few months before I try going back on a diet and such. Not worried about it right now. First things first.
When I first stopped drinking I was advised by my GP and someone in AA to eat chocolate as it helped to replace the lost sugar that I was to getting through drinking. Now, 8 months later, I can't give up my evening 'fix' of chocolate! I got back from a meeting last night and discovered that my boyfriend had raided my secret supply while I was out!!! Off shopping to replace it now.
Have a great day,
Carol

I sucked down a mint-chocolate chip milkshake tonight---my chocolate AND full fat milk and ice cream fix all in one. Heavenly. Oh, and some coffee and soda too. I'm also addicted to mozzarella sticks. Yum!
