I was amazed on my way back from a meeting, there was a injured wood pidgeon in the road and another wood pidgeon swooped down, picked this injured bird up with its feet and fluttered it to safty. Why would a bird do that? I always thought it was only humans who were given the gift of God and spirituality, but this blew me away.
Well, if I remember correctly, don't pidgeons keep their mates for the full season? This is mating season over here, I see all sorts of birds paired up (and squirrels---oy vey, my maple will look like a multi level next fall) so perhaps it was a mated pair.
I think St Francis recognized spirit in animals. I've never drawn a line between myself and animals that way--altho, as Rob knows, pigs may be the exception to that for me.......Wren (as she munches on a pork rind)

But i have heard, on more than one occasion that pigs are surposed to be quite smart.. Im also aware they can eat through bone which will alwasy make me be abit cautous of them.
Sounds like the wood pigeon could have been saving its mate.. cool.. Instincts are funny things.. take the cheetah .. wont just eat a gazelle unless it runs.. if it sits then the cheetahs seem to paw at it.. untill it runs.. if it doesnt they seem to leave it alone..... Well ive seen that on documentaries.. i dont bleve the cheetah is being 'good sport' lol.. just that its instincts tell it to hunt and chase.. mostly.
If the prey doesn't run from the cheetah like any normal gazelle would,, then it means there is something wrong with it,,, a sick gazelle. The cheetah wouldn't want to eat a sick one. Cats play with mice like that too,,, funny,,, men are like that too, but that is another subject... or is it?

Iv seen on some documentaries that a very young gazelle will just sit down like not knowing what to do .. and not get eaten then get up and prance off when cheetahs gone.
Hmm if a woman gently 'paws' a man. he is unlikely to bolt.. lol..
Wow.. U sure it didnt think it was food? If it was helping it .. then that was pretty cool.. -- Edited by Rob at 16:03, 2006-04-05
no def not mate, it was saving it! no kidding. it was as if the bird had a soul- better be carful coz I may have a bird poo on me tomorrow for saying they have no soul!

I think they do have feelings for sure because I was crying the other day- and my dog came and put his head in my lap!

depends on the characteristics of the woman I guess
You mentioned your dog? When I still had my goat farm, my very first goat, Tessie, was the love of my life, no kidding. I adored her. After milking, all the girls (20 to 30 of them) would head for the feeder for the fresh alfalfa. Always. One night, after milking, my marriage was having a rough time, and I sat on the milk stand in the parlor and cried. Tessie came, abandoning her food (unheard of!) pushed the gate so hard with her head I could see just one eye peering in at me. I let her in, she came in and rested her forehead against my chest. I just held her around the neck til I was done crying. She then went back to her feeding when I stopped. She would also bite the skin on my elbow when I played with other goats, LOL. Yeah, they have spirit. I miss hers like crazy, but I do have her 14 yr old full sister still here. Wren

hmmmm....Well. I might as well share here too....Was raised on a farm....I could comunicate with all the animals....then again..I shared my Fathers booze with them too...
Every time I went near them...theyde a come a runnin....
Theyde talk to me..Ide talk to them....We had what you might call...A Very Close Platonic Relationship...
When I grew up I travelled a lot..I took a lot of trains....and carried a lot of baggage....At every station...there would usuall be a lady....with a lot of baggage also...and Ide offer to help them with theirs..
It was quite a struggle...
When 2 people have a lot of baggage...the trip is pretty rough...there were a few train wrecks...
The ending to the story?
Now I just carry an overnight bag....
If you need help with your baggage Mam? Call a Porter...
