Hello d, I'm Dan and I'm an alcoholic.  And, yes you are in the right place.

We are here to offer each other support in overcoming this illness.

Welcome to the Miracles In Progress (MIP) board.  The only requirement to join this board is the same as it is to attend AA meetings: a desire to stop drinking.

If you have not checked out any Alcoholics Anonymous literature yet, here is a link to an important book to help explain how AA got started, and what it has to offer:

http://www.aa.org/bigbookonline/en_tableofcnt.cfm

Please visit this site as often as you need. Ask questions...we have a lot of AA resources here.

Hi D, and WELCOME,

You have come to JUST the Right Place,  This is a Forum, of Recovering Alcoholics, and I am glad to see you just happen to come in.

The only requirement to become a member of Alcoholic Anonymous is a DESIRE to Stop Drinking. have you ever been to a meeting, or are you familiar with AA, in any way.

This is not an AA meeting, but we try to stay within the AA "arena" offering our own Experience, Strengh and Hope to anyone wishing to Stop drinking.

So now that you know you are in the RIGHT Place, I want to offer in anyway that I (we, its a We Progam, all the way) be of help.

This is a 12 Step Program, with the first step being an admission of Being Powerless over Alcohol. (Thats the first half of the 1st step)

So please stay right here and there are so, so many Recovering Alcoholics that will be responding to your Post, So Much Hope is Right Here.

Just a GREAT BIG Welcome to you D.

Toni

Hi D, Just want to add my welcome to the board. Please keep posting and reading. As already said there are a lot of people here who will support you in your decsion to stop drinking. It would also be helpful for you to go to a face to face AA meeting.

I have been sober 21 years and have done it one day at a time, you can do it too.

(((Hugs)))

hi, and welcome to recovery!  welcome to this board.  I guess this is one right place,,  but, as toni said, this is not exactly the same as a meeting,, and so does not substitute for a real live face2face meeting.  It is a kind of supplement. We are oriented to the AA 12 Step program. I guess it is a support group to the face2face support groups.  It is not just open chat either, but we focus on 12 Step recovery related topics. We have a Step Work Board that focuses on the 12 Steps exclusively. If you look at the home page, with the menu of boards and rooms and stuff,,, you will see the Step Work board listed at the top right. From this page you can see it and click to get into it from the yellow box at upper left.

God bless you,

amanda

Hi D,

I'm new to this website. I was just looking through all the chat webs for a place to post a message regarding the passing of an Old Timer; (A person who has more years of sobriety than most, not necessarily a person who is physically old.)

Persons normally come range from age 15 to 85 come to AA to find the solution to a very common problem, Alcoholism; The unability to control his or her drinking. If you have the desire to stop drinking, just for today, you've come to the right place.

My suggestion, and this is only a suggestion, call information or look up online in your area for a AA Club. Call their phone number and/or go there. If you don't have a ride, ask them to have someone to pick you up.

They should have a book of meetings for the area in which you reside. Then, go to some of them. Find the place where you think that you can sit in and listen. Just listen to what they say. Take some of their suggestions and then, go from there.

This program really does work. I feel that I'm proof. Just check out it. Promise no one's been hog tied, since I've been around.

Best regards,

Julie Dene

Long Beach, CA
