I think last night was the first night since i joined this site a couple of weeks ago that I didnt drink at all.. not a drop.. Bit of a rough nite sleep wise, sweats and feeling cold etc.. but i got through it..
http://www.tlctx.com/ar_pages/paw_part1.htm. You might want to check it out regarding your bad nights sleep. Detox can be extremely uncomfortable for us. And we need to get Medical help with it, so it does not turn into "another drink" to get though it.
At least speaking with a Doctor that is familiar with Alcohol Withdrawal. In California, they have a number of Detox Centers, where you can go to get help with the withdrawal. They are usually a 5 day stay in a Detox Center. Over there, you might want to look for something similar.
So, along with everyone else on this Board, we are all here for you, and if you will type in "Links" at seach button you will find many other sites here on line that can help. You can read the book of Alcoholic Anonymous on Line.
To read the first 164 pages of the Book of Alcoholic Anonymous was SO helpful to me when I was feeling just like you are feeling, hung over and detoxing, it made me cry, but my tears were tears of relief, I was not ALONE in my Disease. It seems when we come in, from active alcoholism, we come in from a similar, isolation and despair place, and we can do it now, because we can see that others have walked through the same path.

Rob, Good for you , not taking a drink. Toni has given you many great sources to check into , education is a great thing. Alcoholism is a very complex disease and condition. Many people do need detox...seeking medical help is advised. Many times when we are drinking ,we don't go to a Dr. as we should , for any condition.
If you could go to AA you would have people who could advise you in your area, or call a hospital for their advice. The solution for my alcoholism then and now was not to take the first drink, today.

good for you! now,, Rosie is right,,, if you are getting physical withdrawal symptoms.. you are not in post acute withdrawal, but you are in acute withdrawal. The symptoms might not get worse, and they might, and you might be able to handle them on your own, and maybe not... it is sometimes the best thing to go to a doctor, or emergency room, and let them know that you are in withdrawal from alcohol and they will help to ease the withdrawal symptoms by detoxifying you safely.
I'm really glad you have taken another Step in a positive direction,,, and we are all rooting for you, and I'm praying for you. Let us know how you are doing,, k?

It's not unusual to feel strange or different when you give up drinking after years of daily use. The longer you go without the better you will feel. There will be ups and downs, however, before you get to the feeling the best you ever have in years. Trust me, though, when I say getting there is worth it, and that you will get there if you stay with us, and keep trying. I am feeling SOOOOOO much better now that I have gone several months without alcohol!
There is a lot of good advice from the others here. The withdrawls they mentioned may be light, or may be much worse. If you can, check in with a doctor. It can make things easier either way.
We can do this together, buddy, just one day at a time!
I would strongly reccomend that you arrange an appointment with your local 'Community Alcohol Support Team'. It's a free service and you get an appointment faster if you call them yourself without being referred by a doctor. They are able to help with arranging a detox and providing info, all on the NHS. It's not an alternative to AA but they can do things that AA can't (prescribing medication etc.) Don't want to risk a heart attack or fitting.
If at anytime you feel really strange during detox, don't hesitate to call 999, worked for me, and hospital food is ok!

Thanx guys.. well its midnight here.. the offlicense closed two hours ago and i didnt drink again.... so iv got two nights sober now.. not been to bed yet.
Iv done this before. The first 3-4 nights the worse i dont sleep much, sweat quite abit have to change t-shirt in middle of night and feel quite cold.. on and off.. had to put hat on in bed last night.. lol worked fairly well.. Im doing ok.. I feel alot better than last night.. I find using a very mild herbal relaxant called Kalms works well, both for at night and that grumpy nxt day, it doesnt in any way affect your mental perception or give you any sort of high it simply helps you stay alittle calmer.
Program on tv tonight bout drug addicts going cold turkey.. gees no comparison.. Hat goes off to them. Actualy it was really cool cos they were in clinic and the nurses were so nice., though i didnt see that much of the program, it seemed almost ironic.
Anyway.. Thanx for all your support. Has made a difference. And i hope there are people who read this and it may hopefully give them some hope too, to just make it through the next day.
Been watching that myself, keep things up. I`ve found that that magical hour when the offies are shut was a relief at first, lately it passes by with just a brief mental note and a small quiet and humble congratulation to myself on another fruitful and useful day passed without 8 cans of 5% beer on special offer from the legalised pushers. This forum has really helped me, approaching a month now, I `m a private person the only other person aware of my problem is my wife. The wisdom on here is unparalleled in my humble opinion, I often log in to remind myself of where I`m at, what I`d become and the re-ingnited potential I still have to fulfill. I`m going to try the Kalms you recommended, is it based on St John`s wort or something similar?

Looking at Kalms box .. Active ingredients include Hops Powder BHP, Valerian extract and Gentian Extract.. Let me know how you get on with them and how they compare to anything else you have used.

Well done on day 3. Tried Kalms myself, think thay just work because of the plaecebo effect! I may be wrong, I was prescribed Librium before I had the Kalms and it's a little bit stronger!!!

valerian is recognized as a mild sedative,,, helpful for insomnia,,, without all the side affects that librium has...
sounds like you're taking care of yourself pretty well at this point. sometimes people who have been drinking a lot have not been eating well,,, and find that some vitamin B complex is helpful.

Actualy yeah i find Brewers Yeast tablets to be VERY good!.. Infact on a hangover on a work day they are life savers.. I wouldnt be without them now... Lots of vitamin b.. So yeah thanx for that..
Today iv been rather grumpy, even though it was another music blaring, singing journey to work, i found myself rather easily irritated. I have felt today that i would like to put on a film and open a few drinks.. but best not to.. so hopefully ill hang in there.. have to see how it goes.. .. Guess ill post later if i make it past the offi closing time.. ..
Kalms do work, but as i said they are very mild.. But on some days they have made a massive difference at keeping me together..
