The last 10 nights without a drink have not been without ups and downs. I have honestly not had huge cravings/urges, atlhough I`m well aware that it`s very early days. Home life is good, feeling very tired at odd times of the day. I`ve also had horrendous tonsilitis, something I suffer from often. I`m finding that I`m doing small positive things with the small amount of money I`m saving. Alcohol is so cheap in the UK these days it`s scary, (as to whether Tony Bliar wants us all pissed so we now seamlessley move into Iran, whilst half the country stumbles around Booze Buster, is a discussion point for another day). I bought a set of hair clippers from a supermarket when doing a bit of shopping this afternoon, shopping that would have had beer normally on the list So paid £7 for the clipper set, an absolute bargain should have cost £20, and cut my eldest lad`s hair. Before you all get worried I was virtually brought up in the industry, my Mother had countless salons and I am a qualified barber, albeit 17 years ago. Anyhow his hair looks great, the clipper set cost what I`d normally pay for the haircut (or beer), and as a treat I gave the cost of the haircut to my lad for letting me cut his hair. He hated being the centre of attention, but as a family we all had a good laugh, the eldest, my Baby girl, even managed to buzz him in a "Jack Ass" style before I started

Now here`s a thing, he`s 10 and although I`ve often thought I`d do his hair I never had.

Kids all in bed, on line work to get finished, keeping busy, focused...all in all not a bad first 10 days. Struggle ahead? Big test is the wife and kids are off to London on the 18th for a week, I`ll be by myself for most of the time. I`m OK in my own company, although that`s normally with a drink, this will probably represent a test of sorts. I`m back to the gym that week, that should help, plus the fact 4 evenings are caught up with various activities also..

So that`s an update of sorts, laced with a bit of a ramble, thanks for listening

Good to hear from you,  have you looked into AA meetings,  are they  out of reach in the area you live in?  Have you checked it out on your PC, there are usually meetings all over the place.

have you checked any of the AA websites that you can read the book of Alcoholic Anonymous. You sound great, and your family sounds like a lot of Joy.  But for those times, when you least expect it, you may have an urge to drink.  AA Meetings are like taking out an Insurance Policy on those moments where "there will be no human defense against picking up a drink" (something out of the AA Book).

I am in a hurry at the moment, or I would go back and read some of you previous Posts regarding meetings.  Dont know if you are going, or are not going.

But when you mentioned your family going away on the 18th, you sounded a little concerned.

Just a few questions, I have to go out right now, but would you write me, or Post here as to whether you are in AA now or not.

A Great Big hug to you, and you sound great.

Toni

Good to hear things are going ok with you Pauly ! And yes, alcohol is cheap :) I thought I would have a lot more money to spend since I quite drinking, but not really ... just a few euro's / dollars a day extra... (spending it on extra cigarettes and coffee..)

You sound a bit worried (as toni said) about the 18th, the week you have to fight alone .. Remember it is you who must quit drinking, you must do it yourself! Having people around you helps, and it is easy to just have a quick drink -- nobody will know. But you have been so determined up till now , you surely must be able to face that new challange too!

Good luck Pauly, one day at the time! worry about the 18th when it comes

have a good night!

Cigarettes and coffee,,,   2 more addictions. We who are addicted to one thing tend to be addicted to many things. Cigarettes will kill us too. I used to smoke 2 packs a day and then one year,, my father died of lung cancer and I was diagnosed with the beginning stages of emphysema.  but I guess that is another 12 Step support group.

I used to cut my son's hair when he was young, and I am not a qualified barber.  One time, he was about 8 years old,,  and it wasn't the best job, a little choppy, and he put a paper bag on his head for 3 days. My skills did improve with practice, until he was old enough to pay for a barber himself.

Hey,,,  it's almost midnight here.... chalk up another day that we got through.

love in recovery,

amanda
