I saw a person today that was as good a motivation as anyone should need to stay sober.
The deceased was in his mid thirties, cause of death was:
Bleeding esophageal varices (varicose veins in the throat caused by liver problems and the 'acid' effect of the alcohol,) general organ failure, chirrosis of the liver, portal hypertention and Hep C.
One thing could have kept this person alive, and that thing is stopping drinking.
Had this person seen 'the light' 3 months ago, he could have seen his grandchildren grow up, he could have seen Gulf War 4 happen and watched the film 'Finding Nemo 2'.
Alcohol takes lives, AA stops that, but only if you let it.
I will always be an alcoholic, I hope I will always be a sober one and continue to work the steps.
Bye for now
Chris.

I am gratrful to be alive, sober and able to feel the cold wind that's blowing. Alcoholism is a sad disease, but by not taking that first drink today, I can live life sober.
