A New Pattern Of Living

"We suspect that if we do not use what we have, we will lose what we have."

Basic Text p. 75

Addiction gave a pattern to our lives, and with it a meaning - a dark, diseased meaning, to be sure, but a meaning nonetheless. The recovery program gives us a new pattern of living to replace our old routines. And with that new pattern comes a new meaning to our lives, one of light and hope. What is this new pattern of living? Instead of isolation, we find fellowship. Instead of living blindly, repeating the same mistakes again and again, we regularly examine ourselves, free to keep what helps us grow and discard what doesn't. Rather than constantly trying to get by on our own limited power, we develop a conscious contact with a loving Power greater than ourselves.

######ROSIE...oh yeah, my addiction to hate/ resentment was a patern...and it was familiar!!!! it was SO hard getting rid of the old patterns and even harder maybe replacing them with new healthy ones....the old still rear their ugly heads, and i have to club them out with the program!!!! i do the steps regularly to make sure what i am learning STAYS in my head.......without my higher power, i could never have gotten this far, yes, i have a TON of work yet to do, but you know??? i got rid of a TON of bad habits/ patterns......i want to keep depositing to my **recovery bank*...i want to hang onto what i fought so hard for...i am in shape physically, and regular excercise keeps it....i have to do the same thing with my mind/ emotions......

Our life must have a pattern. To maintain our recovery, we must maintain the new patterns our program has taught us. By giving regular attention to these patterns, we will maintain the freedom we've found from the deadly disease of addiction, and keep hold of the meaning recovery has brought to our lives.Just for today: I will begin a new pattern in my life: the regular maintenance of my recovery.

pg. 294

######ROSIE....i notice for me, if i **slack off* on meets/ literature, i begin to *crash* like i know i am not keeping up with it...and i know old patterns can creep back in.....i have to practice each day to keep my emotional sobriety......it took years for my abuser to make me so sick, i know its gonna take time for me and my higher power to undo the damage he did.....AND when i get there, i gotta keep **daily tuneups* with my program/ steps/ et al...thank you done

It's not do the steps and done!!

It's work the steps everyday of your life and it's esay to forget for this Alkie. I need to read, talk to another recovering person and go to meetings to feel the peace. I'm struggling with very little sleeep lately, to bed 10 up 2.  This to will pass. When in this pattern I'm feeling a lack of serenity.. A danger zone for me. HALTS   Phone calls today for sure and ameeting if possible.

Good post Rosie
