~~FRIENDS WITHOUT FACES~~

We sit and we type, and we stare at our screens
We all have to wonder, what this possibly means.

With our mouse we roam, through the rooms in a maze
Looking for something or someone, as we sit in a daze.

We chat with each other, we type all our woes
Small groups we do form, and gang up on our foes.

We wait for somebody, to type out our name
We want recognition, but it is always the same.

We give kisses and hugs, and sometimes flirt
In Palace we chat deeply, and reveal why we hurt
.
We do form friendships - but - why we don't know
But some of these friendships, will flourish and grow.

Why is it on screen, we can be so bold
Telling our secrets, that have never been told.

Why is it we share, the thoughts in our mind
With those we can't see, as though we were blind.

The answer is simple, it is as clear as a bell.
We all have our problems, and need someone to tell.

We can't tell real people, but tell someone we must
So we turn to the 'puter, and to those we can trust.

Even though it is crazy, the truth still remains
They are Friends Without Faces, and odd little names.

---------Thanks for the link, chris ---------

Thanks, Doll.

This poem touched on a few things I've been pondering over the last couple of weeks, since I joined this site.  I think that there is something different about the anonimity afforded by internet AA Chat and AA Forum sites.

It is called "Alcoholics Anonymous", but that is because we don't have to go public to the whole world, only if and when we are ready.  I think this site might often be a for someone who is afraid of the intimacy of opening up to a group of people face to face, to get introduced to the program.  It could be the first step, hopefully, to them being able to go to that next step, and ultimately step 4.

I think most of us alkies tend to be a little wary of letting others get too close to us, before we get into the program.  Part of the reason the bottle becomes our most intimate friend.

Dunno, just a thought....

Anyway, I am as comfortable opening up to a f2f group as I am here, but I'm greatful to be able to be a part of this online group.  I thank you all for sharing your humor, your ups and downs, and your insights.

I pray every day to that "Higher Power" that you each always have enough.

Peace, Love and Serenity.

Dan

Yes--Aint it the truth.

ok-Im really 102 years old, and I live in an Old folks home. I chase little old ladies, up and down the halls, with my electric go-cart, and carry a laptop. They lock the doors, so I cant boogie down to the beer store. Ive escaped twice in the last month, but this thing will only do ten miles an hour. Tried adding 20 Energizer batteries, to boost power, but the cruisers are faster. Dern it.

Yes--not being seen, is a good thing.:)

Have a nice day!!(smile)

Phil....what can i say, thanks for the laugh!!! funny though, i can just picture that!!!....

i can honestly say that i feel closer to this group than i do at my f2f meetings, specially when i can't get to them...our city is going back to the bargaining tables today for talks, i pray and hope that we get our city back up and running. Buses and garbage trucks!! our garbages are piling up, getting stinky, attracting bugs and rodents...there is someting in our garbage that has been beeping for 4 days now, the kids think it's a bomb!!! really it sounds like an alarm on a watch, must be a freakin' good battery is all i can say!! Maybe i could go dig it out Phil and send it to you for your cart..lol

hugs, Wendy

Hi all, One of the replies to this post explains so much, glad that Phil has finally admitted the truth, hint: get a small jet engine fitted and all will be well! (I'm not being serious).

True what you say Doll, the people here have actually helped me more than F2F meetings over the last 363 days.

I'm almost tempted to start a thread where people can post photos of themselves if they wish to make it more like F2F??? replies welcome.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Best wishes.

Chris.

Ps. Phil, try some oil on the wheel bearings, should give you an extra 5mph.

Thank you for that post, Doll.  I'd like to think I have friends without faces here.  I would appreciate a thread where we could post our pictures.

I now realize how folks have made their AA/Al-Anon/ACOA family their own.  I had a visit with my "family of origin" today.  Not too bad, but I realize how sick my family really is.  My Dad is also in recovery, but Mom, Sis & Brother are all still drinking.  I have learned so much from these boards & rooms, that I'm able to handle it pretty well.......

hey, 4 weeks yesterday, sober!!!

& Phil, I work in nursing home.....There are a few of the fella's who have to charge up in the hallways plugged into an electrical outlet, 'cause they ran out of a gas...lol.  You're not too far from the truth........You'd be amazed at the daily happenings at that place.

thanks for being here, everyone,

Christine
