http://http://www.livejournal.com/users/insomnia/599039.html "My friend Cheryl is a Jefferson Parish deputy. I spoke with her this am- she told me there are dead bodies on my street - they also found a 7 year old huddled under a stairwell, she had beeb raped and left for dead. Cheryl's husband, Jay refused to leave her, so he was deputized and given a gun. They tell me there is nothing, nothing, nothing to come back for."

I Believe in a Power Greater Than Myself. I trry to apply the 12 Steps of AA to my life, but I am still a human being. This disaster is next door for God's Sake. I am not talking about a third world country, I can read about and say OH Ah! " I am glad I am in the good old U.S.A." Evil doers are all around. I don't believe in voodoo or monsters, these are people doing this. Our own people. While our Leaders were trying to settle their differences on where to but the government money, and Mr. Bush getting ready to fly over to see if " They Really Needed Help" this kind of thing was going on. Where are our troupes? Are they all in Baghdad? Does Mr. Bush want to still talk about how wonderful he is. Talking about rebuilding and Hard Work! Hard Work his favorite saying. Hard work is chopping wood. He Say's hard work pertaining to war and dying and killing. Okay if you have to you have to ,but it is not chopping wood. Hard work! Ha!

Susan,

I know you're angry. I am too. I have watched in horror this week, tears flowing down my face and wishing that I could do SOMETHING! to help ease the suffering. And all I can do is pray that I be shown what the next right thing to do is. After 9/11 I went through the same anger and frustration. I was newly sober at the time, so I went to as many meetings as I could and tried to be of service to as many people as I could. Now is not the time to point fingers and place blame. Right now is the time that we must all come together as a people and do whatever we can for each other. You live in Houston, right? Go to the Astrodome with a few of your AA buddies...make a big sign with the circle and triangle, and hold a meeting in the parking lot. Meet the buses as they come in and give the people coming off a hug. Just human contact, and knowing that they are loved, will mean the world to them. Be of service to your fellows, and the anger and frustration will subside.

Love, cheri

Into each life some rain must fall. Some days must be dark and dreary.
--Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Coping with problems and weathering troubled times - is part of life. Those of us who have survived painful experiences have a duty to help younger ones prepare to face bad times by sharing the solutions we found.

When stormy weather comes, we need to feel we are like other people. It's not that misery loves company, but that we don't want to feel we're in this alone.

We will never have perfect living conditions. The only place where every day is a sunny one is in the desert. When pain comes, we can walk through our problems and settle things quickly, rather than prolonging the hurt by battling our way around the obstacles in an effort to avoid them.

What problem can I confront and eliminate today?

Hey Susan, Thanks for sharing your honest feelings. It's better to get them out in the open, in the light of day, then to hide them and get drunk over them. I am angry, sad, disgusted and praying without stopping for all the victims and our President and all those who have the job of helping at this time.

I will do what I can, donate a little money, send some water on a truck that is pulling out of my town in TX on Monday. But most of all I will keep praying.

Talking about it is good, have you talked with your sponsor? Thanks for sharing here.

(((Hugs)))

We as a society cant start pointing fingers. It will be more disasterious to our fellow man than Katrina has already done ... Because if we do my prediction is: ( as well as many others)...We will enter World War 3 right here in our Country.

It will be a Race War...between the blacks and the whites....it has somewhat already started. One cant even imagine what that will be like!!!

There was a man that raped a 7 yr old girl in the Dome..he then killed her. It is reported that at least 10 people beat the man to death.

That is one little story that happend...imagine that you have the little girls family to deal with it. Then the rapist's family has to also do the same.

The Governer of ( it was a female..either it was either Alabama or Mississipi) said to reporters that the only thing that she asked was for people to read Psalm 46.

It is a great passage. I would recommend reading it!!

Prayers to Our Country!!!

I and others have to realize these acts are individuals, not any people's as a whole. All groups have bad people. I know the bad is a minority. I have to think of the good in all people that can overcome these sitiations. We have to hold together as a nation and not be divided by race. This is the weak link terrorist  are looking for. We may be forced into putting aside our differences for the common good of us all. Right now I can see where classes of people are beginning to divide. It isn't only blacks and whites any more. Now we get into groups with-in groups. I for one have never notice so much deference between poor and well off, to rich. Most have never known a hardship that money could not eventually help them over come. I am one of the poor. I am white. I thought I had white friends , but class has caused a barrier or suspicion between us. It is something you can feel. I didn't always fall into the poor category. So I thought I was still accepted by my peers. I have slowly realized the many differences. Being poor becomes a way of life and one cannot afford the things that used to bring moneyed people together. The problem with that is that's basicly all they have to bring them together. Only when everyone is in the same boat do they work together. I don't see where people would face a sitiation for the long haul. Hurricane Katrina has brought a lot of those differences to the publics attention.  In fact if you are white and poor you are thouight of as having something , others may catch . I have heard people talk. We know a lot of blacks are poverty stricken. But for a white person to be in poverty it's almost an after thought. Oh yea, there are SOME white people who did not get out in time.

It's like the frog you put into a pot of boiling water  to cook. He will jump about and may get out. If you put that same frog in a pot of cool water and gradually increase the heat, he will  be docile and  lie there until he is cooked. We  don't always see it coming. I am sorry I am not explaining myself very well. I will leave it alone until I can sort out my feelings.
