I'm Back & Have Good News!!!

Hi everyone,

I got back from my trip late last night and it is so good to be back home. But, it was a super break and my parents are looking well. I saw lots of my relatives and that was good and I spoke to so many more of them over the 'phone.

On the second day there I told Mum that I was an alcoholic and attend AA. I was nervous of telling her and I was almost crying by the time I told her. But, she was really great about it and said that she admired me for facing my problem and dealing with it. Dad was pretty good about it, too. It turns out that his father had issues with alcohol, although nobody said that he was an alcoholic.

And, the great news is that I have been accepted by a university to start a course in February and I am so pleased and excited about it. I'll be studying Addiction Studies and I can't wait for the course to begin. It lasts for two years and then I will have the option (depending on my grades!) to study for a further two years.

So, it's all looking great.

I do hope that everyone is fine and staying sober one day at a time. I've missed you all so much. It's so good to be back in my cyber-home!

Take care,

Carol

welcome back Carol

what bravery it must have taken for you to tell your parents about the alcoholism, what courage, good for you, sounds like it feels good to be on the other side of that.

my mum had passed away by the time i accepted my disease, but i did tell my dad and he was a bit like yours, mentioning his mum, who put scotch in her coffee, but "she only did that because she was lonely", he didn't think she was an alcoholic.

congratulations on getting accepted to univeristy, addiction studies, sounds interesting, will look forward to hearing about that as you study along.

i'm back from a trip to florida, so i'll be checking in again, my trip went well, good to get off the rock and stand on the continent for a change.

later, deb
