Heard this in a meeting tonight....Hope I do it justice....
Staying sober is like riding a bike. As long as you keep pedaling slowly along you can have some sort of balance. (Keep it simple) Perhaps you can even coast along but that only works going down hill! When times get tough, you need to pedal a little faster to keep that balance. Stop pedaling....what happens?
Lots of people have been sharing that they have gone back out. A young guy stated that he did go out, again, but is back. We all welcomed him and so many people shared great things. An old timer had the above to share. Its just like working the program. It seems most people go back out because they stopped pedaling....stopped going to meetings, stopped reading the books and thought perhaps they had things licked!!! I now understand why its so important to listen to what others have to share. The good and the ugly....The good makes me want what they have, the ugly reminds me that things havent changed on the outside...still pretty crappy out there! Thanks....Lani

Yep! I, too, stopped going to meetings - one meeting at the time. I let "life" get in the way. Other things were more important, I didn't have time, I didn't feel like it.... AA took a backseat, and my recovery suffered, I went back out. For one night. That was one night too long! .........Today, my sobriety takes priority. My sponsor tells me to "plan my day around a meeting." and that's what I do......Thanks for sharing, Lani

There are times when I can't get to as many meetings as I would like/need. I can feel the effect of that and I don't like the feeling. I know that without my meetings it is only a matter of time before I pick up again. I like listening to the old-timers and also to the newcomers. We all have something to share that somebody else needs to hear.
Take care,
Carol
