For some reason, when I hit the submit button, I get a blank page, so I will try this in response to the post from CarolinaGirl.

Welcome CarolinaGirl, (my first post dissipated when I tried to submit it). So, I'll try again.

Thank you so much for this share. It is a strong reminder of how insidious this disease is, how easily we can slip into denial that something like this could not possibly happen to us. Recently an aquaintances husband underwent something very similar, and after leaving hospital, with all good intentions, he eventually decided he didnt need any outside help. Just waiting to hear what will come next. How easy it is to forget the soul and spirit sickness that goes hand in hand with alcoholism, let alone the insanity. We forget how vulnerable we are; or we reach a point where we just don't seem to care anymore. I had to be sober for a time before I could admit to myself just how much I really did care. And then I read a share like this, and how it rushes back--that could be me, that could be any one of us. I will keep your young friend in my prayers, and I hope there can be some peace for you during this arduous time. Be blessed, chris

Chris,

Thank you for your prayers and kind words.  It is a reminder to all of us where this disease can lead us if we're not careful.  The most important thing is to remember that we are only granted a daily reprieve and to make the most of each and every day in sobriety.  I am so grateful today that I am sober.  And I'll just keep doing the next right thing to stay on track.  As for my friend, he has shown no signs of improvement.  This past weekend, his temperature reached 105 degrees.  He is still in the drug induced coma.  It's really sad to see how alcohol has completely affected all of his organ systems to the point that they cannot function properly at all.  And the antibiotics they are giving him just aren't working.  But again, all I can do is pray and stay sober.  Thanks again for your prayers.  They are greatly appreciated.  Take care!  GodBless!
