Greetings all,

Well, sadly, on Oct 20 I threw away 5 years, 4 months & 1 day of sobriety by drinking a few beers. I had a bad fight with my wife and felt it might finally be over, so why not just give up on everything and start drinking again? I must say, the experiance was not what I thought it would be. Oh sure, the beer tasted fantastic, but it brought back many bad memories with that taste. I never really even drank enough to get hammered, just a little buzzed. It felt so wrong, and I hurt myself the most.
However, the most amazing things have happened since. I hooked up with a person who is the perfect sponsor for me. The first time I went thru the steps I basically just went thru the motions of the steps. Never really gave it much effort and the guy who 'sponsored' me was not the right one for me.
But this time, I am really on fire to work the steps the right way this time.
Lots more to say, but enough for now.
I'm sure glad to be here!!

Glad you decided to come back. 5 years is very pivital time in sobriety.
Hope you'll be a regular here, the place is dominated by women (not that that's a bad thing)  just a little intimidating at times.  I'm surprised they haven't run me out of here yet!

Welcome,

Dean  smile

Welcome to MIP, Curtis, and I"m so glad you found us. Keep us updated on how things are going, and be gentle with yourself. There's a reason for everything, and look how cool it is that the quality of your sobriety is undergoing such positive changes.

Dean, (laughing at you right now)  why would we run you out of here? I love your posts, I always read them. I really like how articulate you are about your views. No confusion here, I just see you as a straight shooter, and I admire that. So don't start running yet, LOL.

Hi Phil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just getting back on after a few busy days. Houseguest is still here, and, well, yeah. Time for some privacy and silenceweirdface

Welcome Curtis!
Glad your here! Lots of caring and loving people whom I personally feel very lucky to have met!!

Im sure Dean will be happy to have another male on here to even the numbers out here a bit!!! You men have to stick together!!!! (Because we are the intimidating breed!!HAHA) I too appreciate all you share and your no nonsense approach to life.

Curtis, dont beat yourself up too much! I know other people who have left after as many years as you have and are now, thankfully, back in the rooms! You almost have the advantage over us that havent done this before. You will, and have, chosen the right sponser and you will know how to honestly work the program! So, Keep comin back!!! Lani

Hola Curtis. Welcome home.

Doesn't it suck that knowing you're an alcoholic really is the nail in the coffin of any chance of enjoying being one? I used to really enjoy drinking.... or  at least the first couple drinks.... (or so I've been told!) Once I knew I was an alcoholic (who am I fooling- I've known I was an alcoholic from the time I was 17- how about "once I admitted I was an alcoholic") it never was the same.

Oftentimes I sit and wonder- should I have taken the blue pill? weirdface

Hi Curtis,

Welcome to MIP. It really adds a lot to the quality of my sobriety and there are some wonderful people here.

Please try not to beat yourself up too much about drinking again. When I picked up again, a little while ago, I decided to learn from what triggered me to drink. That helped me a lot.

Please keep posting and letting us know how things are going for you, won't you?

Take care,

Carol
