Is there room in your day for the unexpected?

Recovery works best for me when I'm open to what comes along each day. I used to set rigid schedules for myself, write long lists of things to do, and proceed through the day wearing the blinders of my preconceived scenario. Binges were my way of rebelling against my own rigidity and also a protest against whatever upset my carefully made plans.

We miss a lot when we try to impose our own structure on the events of the day. Perhaps we do it out of anxiety, and perhaps we do it to feel we're in control, but it doesn't work.

However hard we try to ignore or prevent the unexpected, the unexpected occurs. One of the things recovery teaches us is that we can trust ourselves and our Higher Power to deal with whatever comes along. Using our inner resources, we are free to respond spontaneously to the real life situations that we encounter.

Today, I will be open to the unexpected. Who knows? It might be fun!

THE UNEXPECTED

Tonight when I came home from a Womans meeting my sweet wonderful husband of 12 years yesterday, was home from work. I walked into the kitchen and our two German shorthaired pointers,"OUR DOGS" and "OUR CHILDREN" greated me with woofs and licks.

Then my husband handed me a beautiful plate of pasta, shrimp, and vegies that he made sortof. I am the cook, he pours it out of the bag and stirs it in the pan, serves it, dinner. I was starved so it was wonderful!

Anyway, THE UNEXPECTED, was a BIG BEAUTIFUL GOLD BOX, wrapped with gold hearts all over the paper. I couldn't catch my breath I went ahhughhhh I think, anyway I was so elated.
I gingerly opened the BOX and inside was a NEW HANDBAG YAHOO! then as I was moving away from the box he went uh, uh, uh, so I looked inside and there was this beautiful wallet to go with my beautiful purse.

My "UNEXPECTED GIFTS" truly were a surprise and a joy. Just like God, A.A., Sobriety, husband, Son, Friends, family, dogs.

Love to you all,
Pam
