As some of you know, Im getting back on track being that I took a deture for a few Mos. after being sober 13+ years. In a earlier post, I told about my buddy next door coming over with 2 Ice cold long necks and offered me one. (at the time I had 3 days clean). Well, to make it short,He told me today He got into some problems with the police the other night and went to lockup.Said he was gonna have to do something about his drinking. I said, " what do you mean by that"? He said , I might have to check out that AA. (He didnt know I was in it). When I told him, Mike...how do you think I stayed sober all those years...AA. Then I said Mike...want to know why I started drinking again?? I Stopped going to AA meeting and doing what I was suppose to do to stay sober.I said , Mike, this Wed I will be sober 1 Mo. want to know how?? I got back into AA and have been doing what I should be doing. He said , " No Sh_t!!" I didnt know all that about you. I said yep. He said, is it expencive? I said , well, they do pass around a basket, and you can drop in a doller if you want, but you dont have to.He said" How often do they have them. I said everyday...as a matter of fact there's one right around the corner tonight at 8 PM. I said you want to go with me . He said Yep. Funny how things go, one day your offering your buddy a beer , next thing you know your going to a AA meeting with him. God Is Good . ( P.S., I had to do a drug and alcohol test yesterday for work, .000 !) ya dont get cleaner than that!
Wow,Ron, thank you for sharing this experience. It goes to show, we just never know when that hand is going to reach out for help. It's shares like this that remind me of the blessings we recieve in AA, and how we "pay it forward". Chris

UPDATE...Sure enough...he showed up at the meeting. (I had told him to come early so I could fill him in on what to expect during the meeting , and that how every person in the room was in the same boat He and I were in and that we didnt have any rituals like sacrificing chickens or anything like that LOL). I wanted him to be relaxed. He picked up his 24 hour chip. I told him to do like me, go home, dont drink, in the Morning ask the Boss to help you stay sober for just that one day, and then tomorrow night , thank him. I think he wants what we have.
Wow! That is great Ron. Heck, the two of you being next door could well work for some good support for one another. Beware the flip-side of that: If one of you falters, it's not necessary for the other to follow!!. I DO hope this works as well for Mike as it has for you!
Just thinking...Here he offered you a beer, now you offer him his life. Coool!
Keep it up Ron, you're doing fantastic...Tim

Thanks so much for sharing that with us. Well done on being able to go to a meeting with him. That would certainly have helped me when I first went to my meetings. It's wonderful to be able to give back what has been so freely given to us, isn't it?
And, well done on your sobriety, too.
Take care,
Carol

Thanks for the story and the inspiration. It is good to remember why we are here - to get sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. "It works - it really does". I needed an uplift.
