I mentioned in my last post... the little chick I brought in yesterday... God and prayer really does work miracles... he was about half dead when I found him out there yesterday afternoon... generally you don't expect them to make it if they're that bad off, once they stop chirping, there doesn't seem to be any hope... brought him in, along with the 2 chicks that were apparently abandoned also, but those 2 were doing fine... mixed up some sugar water for them... made sure the little weak one got quite a bit to drink, but he still wasn't improving much... it was warm in the house, bf didn't want me turning on the heat lamp and thought they'd be fine...
Well, he still wasn't doing good later on last night... this whole time, he'd been falling over backwards, would sit back on on his butt, with his legs straight out in front of him, wobble, and fall over... went into the guinea forum chat, and mentioned it, and they said to give him the "bra treatment" lol in other words, put on a sports bra or built-in bra shirt, and put him in there lol Well, that worked really well, got him warmed up, gave me time to adjust the heat in their box, and by the time I put him back in the box, he ate a little, and was drinking on his own and wobbling around a bit on his own... and has continued to keep getting better :) he should be fine by later on today, he's still just a bit wobbly...
Well, early this morning, around 3:30 or 4, I decided to check on the critters in the barn, because I remembered I hadn't seen 2 of my guineas and 1 of my turkeys when I was out there earlier... thankfully I checked on them... found out I've got a guinea that is hurt or sick...
He was on the ground, which is odd, normally he's roosting with the other 2, and none of them are ever on the ground at night... He can't stand up, but nothing seems wrong with his legs... he's not "talking"... has let out a couple of little squawks, but mostly makes some kinda airy noise like he's lost his voice... someone on the guinea forum thought it was botulism, so I looked it up, he doesn't fit the symptoms unless I've caught it very early on, and well, it'd be odd for him to have food poisoning and none of the others out there have it... but the symptoms were mostly of weakness, and he's very alert, can still lift his head and drink and eat, and his wings are strong and not droopy... he just can't stand up.
I have no clue... but... between him and the chick, I've been up all night... yes, I'm way too overprotective and worry too much about all these babies lol Thank god I don't have human babies... lol
Am waiting to see if I get any more replies on the guinea forum, and see what I might be able to do for him... then will get some rest I guess... the vet's not in the office today... and well, he does fine with broken bones and such on the birds, but don't think he knows much about illness with them, and I'm sure his legs are fine and that he's sick in some way... so not much Doc could do anyway...
Gonna keep prayin about it... God worked miracles on my little chick... I know he can on my guinea too if its His will...
