You all said I was too flippant to be serious about quitting drinking. You mocked me for coming and going and not being able to make it stick...you were cold, callous and insensitive. Well I've got  a little news flash for you, I did finally get "it" and I have put together some clean time so you can all stick that in your pipes and suck on it.

Apologies will be dealt with on case by case basis smile

And the controversy begins again!!! Tipsy... please refrain from saying "all" because I said nothing but nice supportive things to you. Anyway, I am glad that you have put some clean time in as you say, but you do not have anything to prove to us... do it for yourself. Congrats to you regardless, very happy for you

Congratulations, Tipsy.  This is Gem, the new kid on the block.  Just remember to take it a day at a time and keep coming back!

Mocked?  People were cold, calloused and insensitive?  I could add a few other things to that list, and many of them- most of them, actually- happened in sobriety to me.  It was hell, but I didn't get drunk over it.  But I can definitely relate to what you're probably feeling!  Keep coming and keep talking!  And keep up the good work, ADAAT!

McStagger,
No you probably didn't like what was said to you.....most alcoholics rarely accept
graciously any kind of suggestions to help them get sober. Know quite a few that went
down kicking screaming and fighting.......even to THEIR end. It is EXACTLY what alcohol
does.......gives one "attitude"......and not a very humble one at that. So often they hear what they WANT to hear rather than what they NEED to......so nope you won't hear me
say "I am sorry" because by achieving "clean time" that is a victory for sobriety. Rah!!!!
That in part is what I've learned in my own journey. It is also what I would/will tell anyone
trying to cope with alcoholism.
Glad to see you have gained some ground in your journey...... Hoping you won't stop
with just "some" and will continue. It gets easier and eventually it will be realized that what
may have appeared to be "cold, callous, and insensitive" was quite the opposite and that what was said was for your own GOOD. Wishing you the best of blessings that only sobriety
can bring! Wanda

Hey Duane!  Glad you found a way.  As I have said before, we each find our own path.

I hope to see you pop in on occasion, and let us know how it's going.  I especially hope you stop by to rub it in when you have hit one year!biggrin

Sooo true!  Not one person in a thousand likes being told he truth about themselves.
I know I didn't!  Mostly because it's so damn embarrassing and so damn humbling.  I remember those people who got into my face and I've come to a place in my life now where I view those people as true friends who were trying to save my sanity and my life.  They weren't being cold, calloused and insensitive. People that are being cold, calloused and insensitive don't care.  Those people cared, even if it didn't come aross to me that way at first.

Nothing's final Tipsy, tis 1Day@aTime! I hope you have something there & can enjoy. Sobriety's a bit more of a challenge to me if I don't work the program & come to meetings so I'm glad A.A.'s about to help me learn & grow. I'm glad you've come back to share. Hope you still do :) Good luck for your sobriety! Danielle x

Well, I gotta be honest and say I dont know anything about your past or what was said to you. I will say this though, Everyone that has replyed to my post have been more than helpful and have given me hope. Today makes 9 day's clean for me. At one time I had 13 yrs. Just goes to show that it's a one day at a time deal. I want to add this, because Im a Alcoholic I know for fact that most if not all of us seem sometimes to be a little thin skined and take things the wrong way. Im NOT saying that was your case, But do some  searching and ask yourself if it was possible that maybe you were?. There is no "right way" to get sober. For me, AA was the only way that worked for me . I do know people who have used other means such as church ect. to get sober and they are happy. The main thing is this...ANYBODY can get sober, the trick is to STAY sober and be happy. Good luck and please hang in there
