Hi guys, ok so we all have something in common...we're alcoholics, yes it's true. Anyway I'd like to know what you all do besides having this disease. What are you're hobbies, interest's, ect... So because this is my idea I'll go first.
I really like to draw, create, decorate, write, all that fun stuff. However I rarely do those anymore, I've realized that I need to use my spiritual gifts before they go away! I would love to set aside some time each day for vitality practices. It seems so simple, yet life gets in the way, if any of you have any suggestions, or things you do to get your inspiration, I would love to hear.
What I have been doing is encorporating yoga which has been very helpful with meditating and so on, and of course I go to the gym all the time because I'm also a fitness instructor. Excericise is a very good stress reliever for me, and I have to say that is one area that has been a very fun creative outlet and surprisingly very "healing" Anyway that's about all I can think of now, if you care to share it would be nice to get to 'know' you all a little better.
I dabble with various musical instruments (not too seriously, though), banjo, guitar, yamaha keyboard, digeridoo, & trumpet. Still working on trying to read sheet music, not there yet due to lack of discipline.
I am also into gardening (as climate permits/requires), golf infrequently, fishing occasionally.
During the 5 months of winter in northern North Dakota, I am mostly a couch potato.
Hi Moon, I like to write, too, but don't get the chance much lately. I love playing with my two small children. I also like to hike , camp, read American History, sports biographies, and listen to old school punk ( and some new stuff). I also read a lot about urban education (I'm working on my doctorate - that takes a lot of time). I also enjoy going to the gym. All that said, sometimes I just like to hang and relax. We don't have a TV, so a good book or surfing the net is fun.
Sick of being Sick - i'm inspired. Although I seem to have no musical aptitude, I want to take up some instrument. The digeridoo? I've always wanted to try the bagpipes. That is too cool. Mike
Since I stopped drinking I have found time for the simple pleasures in life. I now read so much more than I used to; I love cooking again and I love going for long, peaceful walks.
And, I've spent a little time this morning rescuing an injured bird from a pond!
But, there's so much more that I can do now and so many new interests that I want to take up, and it all feels great!
Take care,
Carol

I love to cook, I have about a million cookbooks and enjoy sitting and reading them like a novel.
My b/f restores old muscle cars, I grew up doing that with my dad, so I love gettin my hands dirty turning wrenches on the engine or sanding and painting body parts or whatever
I get on the Harley every chance I get........
I enjoy working in my yard. I bought an older home about 5 years ago and am slowly painting, putting in new flooring, landscaping, etc. Doing what I can, then will hire out to do the things I can't.
I actually have begun to see some projects be finished! While still out there, my intentions were good, but rarely saw anything finished......

Hi Moon, I love to work with wood. I used to oil and water paint a good bit and I feel like wood is just the new medium for self-expression. It's actually quite wonderful as the woman I'm involved with is also my business/art partner. I'll see if I can attach a picture of the latest piece...Tim
Wow, Tim, that's just beautiful. Hope to see a website up someday with your art on it...
Moon, I sent you a link to something you may (or may not) enjoy. Be patient, it took me years to settle down enough to find a niche' I'd be comfy in for self expression. hug, Chris

I write quite a bit of poetry as well as some philosophy and prayers. I play with old computers and parts (Im typing on one of four I have networked in my home). I taught myself to create web sites with simple HTML, and also have a blog I work on. I do remodeling, but I like the old old homes the most. Anything I can do to create, learn new things, just have some kind of project to release my over active imagination is good. I think we all have great imaginations... I meen, we are dreamers, we have grandeos thinking dis-orders... Or in my case it could be obsessive LOL I think it's important to find an outlett.

Thanks for asking, Moon. I've never really invested for myself in this way but I love to dance. I'm getting on a little now (!) so the only way I'm going to retain & improve on my dexterity is to get some Yoga underway so I'm hoping to commit to this in the forseeable. I tried Djembe drumming last year & managed to perform in a local park on stage with a Samba clollaboration during a festival. That was good & took a lot of practice though I let it go being committed to meetings & recovery for now. Today I like to go to Theatre & see live performances of acting & dance. This is something I hardly ever did prior to sobriety so I'm quite proud to have this for a pursuit now. I feel more creative these days & able to accept others for theirs without jealousy or resentment! (I'm embarressed to say lol) I also wouldn't mind getting into writing & using that for a creative outlet. I've always been scared for imperfection before but now I'm learning practice makes perfect & it's progress not perfection! The world's our oyster after we set the drink down. I've got lots more time to devote to my work & God knows I've got some catching up to do! I'm learning for confidence. I'm looking forward to the work I'm doing on the Steps paying off dividends so that I can experience even more. Thanks for the reminder & inspiration for everything we're trying for. These joys & games make life so worth living. Enjoy yours, Danielle x
