I just helped someone yesterday through their fifth step. You can tell when someone works this step honestly and completly. The task can be difficult... you sometimes hear things youd rather not hear. It's difficult to watch someone you care about sometimes, dredge up past memories. It can be very emotional. To sit, and listen, intently, and not become emotional yourself. Or try to excuse or qualify their stories... But, when they work this step, the transformation is unmistakable. What a blessing it was for me to see this man today, with different attitudes towards his entire world. He was almost glowing.
The thrill of working with a fellow alcoholic, I find , is better than any thing I ever got out of a bottle.

Hi Miller,

Thanks for sharing that with us. My sponsee is just making a start on her step four and wants me to hear her step five, so I found your post really helpful and a super insight.

And yes, working with a fellow alcoholic is more rewarding than anything I ever found in a bottle.

Take care,

Carol
