I love em. Literature one of the huge redeeming features of humanity, IMHO.
"Only the half mad are wholly alive." Edward Abbey
"Say what you mean and mean what you say." Alice- Through the Looking Glass.
Don't look forward to the day you stop suffering, because when it comes you'll know you're dead. Tennessee Williams If the writing is honest it cannot be separated from the man who wrote it. Tennessee Williams again. It's a poor sort of memory that only works backward. Lewis Carroll as the queen- Through the Looking Glass. “I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” Mohandas Ghandi
Nearly everything you do is of no importance, but it is important that you do it. Mohandas Ghandi
Mother Teresa also said "If you judge people you have no time to love them" Such a beautiful lady who lived. She wrote a poem once about comparing ourselves with others or people pleasing. I can't remember how it went but it was basically saying don't judge yourself by the reactions of or comparing with others as it was never between us & them anyway, it's between us & the ultimate Higher Power. If anyone knows this poem please pass it on to me because it's my favourite & I haven't managed to find it yet. It means more to me now that I have that faith than it ever could have before I knew what it could truly mean to me.
Thanks my members! Dxxx

Not sure if this is the poem you meant, but Mother Teresa hung a copy of this poem on a wall of the orphanage she founded in Calcutta. Its source is unknown.

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self-centered; Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, People may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; Be Kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; Build anyway
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; Give the world the best you've got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis. it is between you and God; It is never between you and them anyway.

MoreMoreMORE!!! Could I please have some more cool quotes por favor?
Ghandi had another cool one that I cant recall, but wont bother to try and ask because he was a cerebral sonofagun and had about a zillion cool quotes. I'm on a mission for quotes worthy of repeating.
F. Scott Fitzgerald: "First you take a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes you." "Often people display a curious respect for a man drunk, rather like the respect of simple races for the insane..."
James Joyce : "And then I asked him with my eyes to ask again yes and then he asked me would I yes and his heart was going like mad and yes I said yes I will yes." And Flannery O'Connor: "Some people just need shootin'. "
Oi! I wish I was at home right now ('though it's nice being on a trip). I have a great little book I write favorite quotes in. I have a few favorite Gandhi quotes. I posted a Mahatma Gandhi quote a little while ago . . . I’ll just cut and paste here from that post:
"Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning." -- from The Words of Gandhi
The book that the above quote is from is worth looking at . . . that and Prayer—a compilation of letters, articles and other writings by Gandhi.
I found this one online that I like:
Freedom is not worth having if it does not connote freedom to err. It passes my comprehension how human beings, be they ever so experienced and able, can delight in depriving other human beings of that precious right. – Mahatma Gandhi
lol I like it.. Had to end with what was going on in mine. Twas such a distraction. Funny how selflessness seems to have to begin with selfishness. Self~care, Self~aware, Responsible & accountable. No blame only teachings from mistakes. Jeesh, there gotta be an easier way! Hi to MIP Sheila, happy trails

Just got home a little while ago from my short trip. Here are a few more quotes from The Words of Gandhi:
It is because we have at the present moment everybody claiming the right of conscience without going through any discipline whatsover that there is so much untruth being delivered to a bewildered world.
Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.
Religions are different roads converging upon the same point. What does it matter that we take different roads so long as we reach the same goal?
If we have listening ears, God speakse to us in our own language, whatever that language. (I would substitute higher power or "source" for God, personaly)
. . . and last one to share: Good travels at a snail's pace. those who want to do good are not selfish, they are not in a hurry, they know that to impregrnate people with good requires a long time.
I went to look for my quote book but I can't find it . . . yet. Bummers. I like this sharing of quotations!
"some people are sicker than most"-said at the meeting after the meeting after a guy with 15 years impregnated 3 newcomers within a month, not that it doesn't take 2 people to get pregnant....but still
Thanks for sharing, As your co-dependent boyfriend of old I would like to tell everyone what an absolute star you are.. "If co-dependency is wrong I dont want to be right"! Sorry, I'm not funny which is one of the reasons lilmzsobriety left me in the first place..
