First of all, I would like to thank everyone that helped me prepare for going to my first meeting... I got there tonight thanks to all of you for your postings and responses! When I first got there (which was extra early because I was paranoid about walking in late and having the attention brought to me even more since I was new and even more than that by giving me an excuse to turn around and go home) I had no idea where to go. The stairs I saw led to a daycare part of the building, but once I got the courage to walk in it was the right spot (which took about 15minutes for the whole courage thing). I introduced myself to the 2 guys that were there already and one woman (she was a nursing student and wanted to see how alkies are so she would know for a nursing project... almost felt as though I was a mouse in an experiment for my first time going wit her watching everything!). It was a speaker meeting and she didn't show up so they had a man that was attending the meeting be the speaker. After he was done everyone except me shared something... I just sat and listened. At the end a man and his daughter came right up and talked to me. She gave me her phone number and he gave me a book on where meetings are. They also highlighted the meetings that they go to so I can go if I ever want to go where I know someone. They also told me that they will be at this same meeting next week to see how I was doing and to make sure I went (in a nice way). That made the night so much better with them showing that they really do care. It also gave me inspiration to stay dry for at least another week until I see them again! Thanks again everyone for your kind words and help...

Well done on getting to your first meeting. Meetings really are the only way that I can stay sober. Try to get to as many as you can, they are all different, but filled with wonderful people who are always ready to help.
Please keep posting and letting us know how things are going for you, won't you?
Take care,
Carol
