anxiety at meeting...

I haven't been to a meeting in a week and a half cuz I've had an ear infection in both ears and have felt like crap and haven't been able to drive... I'm finally sorta ok to drive, just a little dizzy, so I tried to go to a meeting tonight... I got there ok and then the room started filling up and it was really crowded and I started shaking and sweating and got a little dizzy and left... it was anxiety, I was fine once I left... Ugh... I don't know if it's just because I haven't been in so long or because I've hardly even been around people in so long... I don't know. I guess I'll try again tomorrow... if it keeps up like this I guess I could go back on xanax for a few meetings... that's what I had to do when I started AA... *sigh*

Sometime my Friday speaker meeting is real crowded. The secretary will schedule a popular speaker and a lot of folks that don't regularly attend that meeting will show up. I'll get there a little later then usual and wont get a seat and have to sit on the edge of the stage. Sometimes the crowds just get to me and I got to leave. When i got older I've gotten to where I don't like crowd, don't like being treated like cattle.

Hi Lisa. When I'm stuck in a crowded area, I make sure that I sit near the door, even if I have to move a chair quietly over to that corner. Just the knowing that I can leave if I need to helps. I'm very claustrophobic, won't even go into a large store unless I know exactly where the exit is, preferably visible. These little tricks work real well for me, and I keep bottled tea or water with me to sip on no matter where I go. Anxiety disorder bites, but there are little games you can play with yourself so that you don't get too paralyzed. I got angry at how it was controlling my life, so forced my self out and found which things worked for me so that I could keep livin normally. Well, as normal as I'll ever be.......but it works. Most of the time, now, I don't even notice the claustrophobia, I suppose because I sort of put it in perspective by repeating the desensitizing actions. Like I said, after awhile, I quit even noticing. So sorry youre having to deal with this. I know how rough it is.  Chris
