Developing ourselves

We must realize in our hearts that we are becoming better people. We do this by using our highest standards and making our best efforts. We do this, in part, by turning our lives over to God, who will guide us if we sincerely ask.

As we develop, we find we're offering much more to life than just avoiding mood-altering drugs. We are coming to love others and to help them by thinking, feeling, and behaving maturely in all situations.

Am I developing into a better person?

Higher Power, help me realize that my new life is not just about changing my past but about developing my future as well.

Thank you for this.  This is the biggest thing that I am doing in recovery - developing my self. It is said that we stop developing at the same age that we start drinking, or drugging,, or using whatever other means of escape from dealing with things and learning, sometimes it is at an age where we suffered a devastating trauma. According to that theory, my inner child is about 13.  It is said that we have to learn to crawl before we can walk too, so many of us start out on our recovery journeys by crawling, inching forward as best we can.   Day by day we are developing our selves, making up for the lost time that we were stuck in the rut of drinking, or drugging, or eating, or fantasizing.

Sometimes it means, not only how to work methodically towards a goal, step by step,  but it also means how to play and enjoy life without getting chemically high.  Learning hte natural highs,, like a good laugh, or exercize.

Learning to really Live, and Love, and Be ,

Thanks for the post

Some days I have certain issues when working on myself, and the thing that hits is that damn thinking.  Start questioning my doubts and well everything else that goes with it, than I have to kick myself in the ass and ask for guidance to shake it.  It takes at least a day to do this, an knowing deep down I've chanced for the better.  I'm so greatful that this program is here and sober today.
