Seeing the Positive side.

My drunken personality always saw the bad things in all situations.  No matter what, no matter how perfect something was I always found it's flaw and made it a point to do so.  How arrogant is that?

Seeing the positive side of things now helps me through each day.  I have learned to leave things as they are if it's not my business.  I've learned to find the silver lining and look at that rather than the flaws.  The way things are is not my problem to fix.

Just thought I'd share a thought that struck me today.

Hi Ironman,

Thanks for a great post. You so reminded me of just how my thinking was when I was still drinking. I could never see the good in a situation, I always had to look for the negative side of things. Then, I would happily point it out to anyone who would listen to me.

But, because of AA and working our wonderful program I can see the good in almost everything and everyone. What a seismic change for this alcoholic! Thank you for reminding me of just how far I have come.

Have a great and sober day,

Carol

Only 11 days now.  I was in a 12 step study group last night and it was step 6.  The step book was just right on about how our egos are boosted with perverse judgement, character assasination and gossip.  This attitude brought out the negativity.

Why were we this way?  Why were we needing to make ourselves feel superior?  I think it's because that character flaws were compensating for the guilt and shame we feel while drinking.  AA is such an eye opener for me.

I do believe in miracles!

Hi Ironman,

AA has certainly been an eye opener for this alcoholic.

But, it has also opened my heart and my thinking, and that is a wonderful thing for me. I was forever thinking about me and that was it. But, through working this super program I can so clearly see the many choices that are open to me in all areas of life. It really does keep getting better.

Congratulations on 11 days sober!!! That is really great. Keep it going.

Take care,

Carol
