I am a member of the St Francis Group of AA in Johannesburg, South Africa. My sobriety date is 14/2/03.
I have been browsing some of the posts and seen some about using online instead of a normal meeting. When I first got in touch with a member of AA it was online. I was in Johannesburg (where there are at least two meetings available every day) and he was in the outback of Australia. He told me in no uncertain terms to drag my butt to a meeting and I did. I have never looked back. I could not have done it online, although I know many loners do. Somewhat baffling to think about how loners did this before there was email...
There is NO substitute for a physical meeting, a home group and a sponsor. It was fear that stopped me picking up the phone to a local person. Man, am I glad I did!
I did not really crave when I came into the rooms - thank God - but I know people who have and they swear by the meetings as a way to get properly out of their own skin without a drink being necessary.
Welcome to MIP. It's a great place to be with folk sharing their es&h. It really adds to my sobriety, but I still attend 2-3 face-to-face meetings each week. For me, nothing compares to having a home group and a sponsor.
It's great to 'meet' you here.
Take care,
Carol

I agree wholeheartedly. Language of the Heart is spoken at the meetings. I need the accountability and the structure in my life too. It is easy to be bullshitted online, and tougher to be bullshitted in person... although it is possible either way!! LOL
Glad to have you and looking forward to getting to know you.. off to a meeting!!
