No matter what faces us -- an unhappy relationship, a serious operation or illness, a feeling of uselessness or helplessness -- it is vital to realize that there is a solution.
We must not expect that the solution to our problem will bring us immediate peace of mind. Focusing our energies and emotions on the answer -- not the problem -- will, however, alleviate much of the futility and frustration we feel.
A medical doctor, George S. Stevenson, wrote, "The solution may not give you everything you want. Sometimes, it may give you nothing but a chance to start all over again. But whatever little it gives you is much more than you give yourself by letting your emotions tear you apart."
Today I will focus my energies and emotions on the solution, not the problem. I will allow the solution to flow through me, with the help of my Higher Power, knowing there is a satisfactory answer to my difficulty.

Sometimes, I find, a problem is not a problem - just a situation or an emotion. In these cases sitting tight and doing nothing is fine. I often, for example, go through patches of unhappiness in my relationship. In those moments, if i took action, the results would be quite bad. Because the problem is just a feeling - not a reality. Part of my malady seems to be living in an emotion, which can shift very quickly just by eating something to sort out my blood sugar levels. Emotions are not reality - they are far too transient for that.
Obviously this is not always true. But if I am in doubt I talk to my sponsor or a friend in AA, my priest - whoever I think may be able to help me see the wood for the trees.
In a meeting the other night someone gave me the bright idea to write some stuff on mirrors. Here are two of the things that I gaze at in various parts of my home:
Thanks for those thoughts. When I first stopped drinking I was amazed at the amount of emotions that came flooding back to me. For years, I had been drinking them away and I no longer knew how to handle them. But, with a little time and the tools of AA it is getting so much better for me.
I loved the two writings you have on your mirrors. And, yup, they most definitely apply to me. Thank you for those.
Have a great day and (((hugs))) from the UK.
