Just wanted to share how neat my Nursing Fundamentals Instructor is presenting our material. She is teaching us that recovery from disease or illness requires a Holistic approach... physical, social, mental, emotional, and yes, SPIRITUAL healing for the patient, and respect for his/her beliefs about all of these aspects.... sound FAMILIAR???? Makes me smile inside, knowing that thanks to AA, I DO understand this approach, and WHY it is so very important.
Back in the day... 1400's? Widows, Orphans and criminals were the ones who 'nursed' sick people. And people spread rumors that Florence Nightingale was a prostitute, bacause she cared for sick soldiers at night, by oil lamp. Bless her heart!!
I think we can all connect to this very neat stuff, as we 'nurse' our fellow alcoholics back to health through, spirit, mind and body. Life is short!! Reach out and care for another alcoholic today~!!!
That sounds like a great instructor you have. All to often it seems that nurses just kind of have a "do my job" attitude, make their rounds, feed the meds, when a good bit of spiritual, friendly comfort goes a long way in helping recover from a physical trauma of any sort. Treat the mind as well as the body. I'm happy you're enjoying it as it sure helps in pulling those "A's"...Tim
P.S. So what if Florence maybe gave a bit more comfort than necessary!
