hi everyone this is first my visit to the site and with little more than a passing glance at the posts i can tell im in a good place ....i went to my first meeting just two short weeks ago and it opened my eyes ...i knew i had a problem and i knew i wanted a little advise on how to get over the cravings and such (i can see you old hands grinning at the back )....yes thats right !!!oh my god it hit me like freight train ..i was relating to the people shareing with the group i sat shocked as a lady across the room told her history of her past life .....it was like she had opened the book on.. MY.. life and i had no secrets from her...the blackouts the hiding drink the deseption the blame and guilt all laid bare before this room ...over the last two weeks i have come to exept fully that i am an alchohlic ....i thank whatever power it was that lead me to this place in my life ...im thankfull that i have not had to sufer like so many in this wonderfull fellowship and with guidence from others so much wiser than myself i hope to lead a rich and fullfilling life sober and in the knowledge that if i am blessed ..maybe just maybe i can reach out and help another lost soul find peace in there life ....
i hope i will make a useful addition to the forum and look forward to meeting you all ...and yes i do know this is a little over the top for a first post but i care not a jot !!!!
i want to shout my joy from the top of the world as loud as i can ..its good to be alive and sober ..like so many before me i had forgotten
If you Post was over the Top, that would be a first in this Recovery Boat we are in.
So happy to see you, and look forward to getting to know you, and that woman that you listened to, telling her story, and how it felt like your story, great when that happens. I have heard that there are only about 18 stories, in this AWESOME Program, sure takes us out of that Isolation, and also out of any Terminal Uniquicness we might be feeling. So happy that happened for you.
And thank for sharing all that you wrote. So good to have you here with us. You don't have to wait to be a part of us, you my friend already are.
Welcome to this wonderful forum. I pop by here several times each day and read and post as much as I want need. It does help my sobriety, but nothing can replace face to face meetings.
I had to smile when you described your first AA meeting and how a lady who was sharing described your life. That was exactly what happened to me at my first meeting. I felt that I belonged in the fellowship then and I always have ever since.
It's good to 'meet' you here.
Take care and keep posting and reading as much as you want.
Carol
