Seizure knowledge or experiences wanted

I'm 36. Been drinking for 20 years. The last four years have been pretty consistent hard liquor everynight; atleast a pint; sometimes pint and a half.

Obviously I'm an alcoholic and have been trying to quit since March. I've been quitting unsupervised, meaning untreated withdrawals. For you experienced folk you know that untreated withdrawals get worse at each new withdrawal. Real damage to the brain is being done with each untreated withdrawal you put yourself through.

Stopping/starting yo-yo is hell on the brain.

Last night and recently been experiencing mild seizures but only when I am about to drift off to sleep. If I stay awake, no seizure symptoms. But once I start to nod off...Boom! it hits. I awake suddenly and ward it off after a few seconds. I must have repeated this over a hundred times last night.

I'm taking a chip tonight and my doc has prescribed Antabuse.

This episode frightened me.

I know what I'm doing to myself.

What I want is if anyone can relate to what I've described or has source for more knowledge on Alcoholic seizures.

I thought seizures were for those 45 and over and who didn't eat......

Thanks to all.

I would have to ask why you are attempting to detox yourself at this point, diddly. When it is this bad, medical help is a MUST. You are playing Russian Roulette with your life. Antabuse won't stop you form having seizures or help in withdrawal.

I know we are not supposed to really give opinions here. But I would NEVER forgive myself if I did not at least warn you that you really really really need to see a doctor and possibly be hospitalized or in a detox unit if you suspect seizures. You are literally playing with your life.

Please let someone help you.

Prayers,

Jonibaloni

Hi Diddly,

I have to agree totally with Joni. It is extremely dangerous to try to detox yourself. It really shouldn't be done without medical supervision.

Please contact your GP or your health care provider as soon as possible!

These seizures are not just for people aged over 45. They are caused by abruptly stopping the use of alcohol. They can occur after a period of heavy drinking.

Please check out this link:-

Take care of yourself and please get help!

Carol

I agree. This ain't going too well. Blood pressure is OK as I have beta blockers and my temperature is normal. It's my head that doesn't feel right.

It's evening and I'm not compelled to run to the ER or local detox center tonight.

Looks like for tonight I'll have to do what I have to do to get safely through the night (nursing) and call the doc in the AM.

Thanks all.

Good morning,

Have been thinking of you, and just wanted to say welcome!

Hope that this morning will be the morning you make that call to you Doctor.

You are in my Prayers.

Welcome again, my friend,

Toni
