It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye. --Antoine de St. Exupery
A tuning fork is a small tool that is used to tune musical instruments. It is tapped softly and then set down. As it vibrates, it gives off a musical tone. When its vibrations perfectly match the vibrations of the note played on the instrument, the instrument is in tune. When the note matches the tuning fork, this can be both felt and heard.
Our hearts work like a tuning fork. When the heart feels completely in tune with a decision or thought or action in our lives, then we know it is the right one for us. We can actually feel the harmony inside our bodies.
Sometimes what we know deep in our hearts gets clouded over by doubts and questions and other people's opinions and judgements. We need to clear away such clouds and listen to our hearts, for our hearts carry the wisdom of God.
Am I in tune with my heart today?

Well I did do some fine tuning this morning, from the heart, and only with God's help can we really get in tune with "To Thine Own Self be True". Recovery has never been a Popularity Contest, but rather a Real Test of just how Rigerously Honest can we be, with God leading the way, and helping us with the Fine Tuning of that Honesty, start out feeling like a chord is off, and then with Prayer, can feel the realignment of that key, and we are once again in touch with Being true to ourselves, first, and then with others.
Other people's judgements are not a big deal to me, what will mess up a day for me, are only my own judgements of others, that is what I have to steer clear of, everyday, a judgement of anyone else, is an instant "self-Imposed" Prison, I have just made for myself, and have to turn these erroneous thoughts over to a Loving God, as soon as I am aware that I have just made one. A Loving God in my life today, can forgive our humanness, but we have to do the daily sweeping of our streets, if we forget, we just get a big pile of debris sitting there, waiting to be swept up, so we can carry on, with Clear and Sober thinking, and feeling from our heart source.
Wonderful Post, and Thank you, have really been enjoying all of the great stuff you have been bringing to this Wonderful MIP Board, seems you have a big basket full of Flowers, and you bring one of those flowers to us each day.
Yes, Carol!! You do bring the most lovely things to this site, and leave them here for people like me to enjoy! Your presence here every day is priceless to me.
I so enjoyed the reference to the tuning fork. I played the piano for decades. It was a coping skill I used from childhood. I used to compose complex songs, and play pieces of music by ear. I have been wanting to get a used piano... maybe for Christmas my husband will help me get one again.
Too bad I could not 'compose' my life as I did beautiful music, back then. My keys were seriously out of tune, and I ended up just pounding away, making no sense or rhyme at all. The alcohol was the first thing that had to go. It was the biggest and darkest of the 'clouds' that were mentioned.
Now, my clouds of doubt and selfishness come in here and there and get me well out of tune. But as the meditation you brought shared, I can 'feel' in my heart when God shows up and fine-tunes my heart. Oh, to live and walk each day in harmony with my Higher Power, and with others!! That is the ultimate goal I am striving for, one day at a time. And I will never reach that goal completely, but it is the journey that counts.
