I'm picking up my 9 month chip tonight. How'd I do it? Didnt drink anything. Kinda feels good, but I would remind myself of two things that are as true today as they where at the beginning. 1. If it still worked, I'd still be drunk. 2. If God hadnt seen fit that I outta be sober, I'd still be drunk or worse. A somber anchor to reality on one hand, and on the other, hope. But for the grace of God.
Oh yeah, HAL! HAL, the linux system, (with no case, keyboard, mouse, or monitor) had an operation today. His CPU fan went outta wack, meaning it would soon burn out. There goes his hard earned uptime. He was powered down, a replacement fan for a p3 was found. Being oversized, I got the very technical geek engineering tools out, (tape), and rigged a base heavy enough to keep it from moving. Slid it up to the cpu, and powered him up, he's back at it. Havent ssh'd over to apologize and ask him how he's doing, but the system led flashes every ten minutes, telling me CRON is running. Oh well. He'll get over it. Maybe I'll let him on the internet tonight. (heheh)(he likes belgium) (phenix.rootshell.be)
And a big Congratulations on that 9 mo. chip, takes so much that first year, I have always thought the first year was the toughest, and you are so into that, and I am so happy to hear that news.
Too soon for the cake, so here are some flowers, to celebrate.
A big hug, Toni
P.S. I love all that you write, and so good to have you here with us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow! Big congratulatory pats on your back for your 9 months! Sounds like you have the humility thing going for you too, which is great! I'm very happy for you!

I only named hal. The motherboard comes from an old emachine, cira 1999, and was refurbished when I bought it in 2000. Lost him in Houston when I went on a TAD assignment (traveling around drunk) about 2001, found him recently in my sister's shed here in Arkansas. He's ran everything from windows 98 1st ed to xp, and since has hosted a dozen flavors of linux and bsd. This thing has also had enough hardware crammed on and ripped of to build 5 more. When he finally checks out, I'm gonna bury him. heh He's got it easy now days. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [root@donthackhal ~]# uptime 22:11:46 up 2 days, 3:53, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00 [root@donthackhal ~]#
pretty useful when I need 'im though, swiss army knife of network tools.
Hell that's the whole point! Painfully obvious this roofing gig wont work forever. Breif gigs in normal jobs have usually ended in damage to persons and property.
