Sobriety is much more than just not drinking. It is a whole new way of thinking. One of those new thoughts is that, for me, the Life Hereafter is from this moment on. I have come to know that what I do, each moment, affects my subsequent life. I create my own personal heaven or hell by the choices I make right now. I don't need to wait. My consequences--painful or joyous--are near and present. So, here are some of my new choices. From this moment on, I will try to:
* Imagine a child's laughter as the basic ingredient of my soul. * Celebrate life through fellowship with others, looking for the light in their eyes. * Open myself to the world's expanse and beauty. * Remember that most all of life is kind and loving, unless I choose otherwise. * Invite input. * Stay open to inspiration and change. * Look for ways to make a difference. * Know that I am limited only by my definition of my limitations. * Remember that "Let your light shine," was intended for me. * Rest when I need to. * Share my feelings with others, without criticism or judgement. * Avoid the self-inflicted pain of resentment. * Ask for what I need, not demand what I want. * Be gentle and patient with myself. * Pray only for knowledge of God's will for me, and for the strength to carry it out. * Share all of this with others.
Life has never been so sweet, and it's getting better.
