went to my regular monday night meeting last week, there was a guy there 4 day sober and he was helping another newcomer with no days sober, this was so touching to me.even at 4 days sober we all have something to offer!!!!!! be safe all wagon
Amen. I believe that we are all 12th stepping each other at ALL times. Time is a facinating thing to me in Recovery. In the respect, that for as much as I really do love and cherish the time I have had in this Program. The TIME, does not have any real meaning, kind of hard to express what I mean here. Kind of like Time is only Time.
Time gives you the opportunity to thourough work the Steps, over and over, and that 12th step, as it is described certainly carries with it a very Powerful message, of we cannot keep it, unless we give it away. Amen to that also.
But so many times, when stuck in something, I will hear something in a Meeting, or someone on this Board reaches out to assist me in my stuck position, and that is where I feel they are 12 Stepping me into correct thinking. Our wiring is always going to be different, and life is always going to be difficult, no way around that but right through the middle of it.
So I was very touched by that story too. 4 days of Sobriety is a huge, huge thing, and possible that new person, and probably that brand new person could identify more closely with the person with 4 days. From day one of being Sober, from there they are all MIRACLES days to me.
One Alcoholic talking to another Alcoholic, is the most Powerful thing in Recovery, my take anyway.
I haven't been sober all that long but I have experience in a.a due to past sobriety. I have never been a sponsor. Never got past the 7th step in a.a.
One thing I do try is being a welcomer. When people walk in the door I greet them. When the meeting is over and someone walks off by themself I go and talk to them. I try to be a friend and I try to get to know these people in the rooms of a.a. and on here too!
I see so many people run out that door after the meeting every time they come. I'm not gonna lie. I need the fellowship of a.a. I need people in my life who understand this disease for what it is. And I do try to lend a helping hand when I can.
And you are so right Wagon. Everyone has something to offer, Everyone!
That's one great thing about AA - we all help each other. I was chatting to someone a few days ago who has just over two weeks sobriety. She said something to me that really made me think. I thanked her for that. AA is a great program and I'm so grateful to be a part of it.
