Hi Everyone,


My name is Sonya and I'm an alcoholic.  I just found this site and hope to chat with ya'll often.  I'm new to being sober (40 days and counting), so I'll probably have alot of questions about what ya'll do to cope.

I have a Q. for you.... how are you staying sober one day at a time? I am just interested in hearing your experience, strength and hope!! 40 days is a real milestone... I am sure your experience with that first 40 days would be helpful to us all... both old and new!!

Hi joni,


I take it 1 hour at a time.  I have been drinking for over 20 yrs so it's not as easy as I'd like it to be.  I checked myself into a rehab center.  I stayed there 17 days.  I've been going to outpatient care for 3 weeks.  Thursday will be my last day in there. 


I go to meetings as much as I can.  I don't have a vehicle (totaled mine) so it's hard to get to them sometimes.  That's why I'm glad I found ya'll.  Maybe one day I can tell you the whole story.  It would take awhile LOL.  If I don't stay sober tho,  I'd drink myself to death just to escape from everything.

It gets waaaayyy better!!! I understand, about drinking to 'escape' the very things that drinking caused...  Crazy, huh??

Hi Sonya,

Welcome to this wonderful forum. It really is a great place to be. I found it just over one month ago and it really does help my sobriety. I keep reading and posting as much as I need.

Well done on your forty days sober. That's great. Keep going.

Sorry for the delayed Welcome, you were on the bottom of the page, and I did not see you,


Congratulations on 40 days, that is a very big deal!!! After 20 years of drinking, 


and Joni was so right, it just keeps getting better, one day at a time, this whole Program is based so closely on that concept, that is all any of us have.
