Beginning again...

I've been in and out of the program a couple of times with my longest dry spell being about 3 months. It seems like such a monumental task to go back and start again at the beginning...christ I don't even have 24 hours yet. Well.

I kinda feel like a loser

Hi Tipsy. Life is a big steaming bag of S**T while you look at becoming sober. Life is really scary and shi**y?

2 Days of being sober and it starts to get better.

After 4 days it's happy Christmas and all is good.

Reserve 2 days for the shakes and just handle it............ Have fun! I'm doing the same Friday!

Best wishes

Chris.

Hi Tipsy,

Well speaking for myself and the countless times, I had to start over, feeling like a Loser was the feeling, but it was actually just the opposite, it takes tremendous COURAGE TO finally admit defeat in this battle with the Disease of Alcoholism.

All we have to do is just stay there in the 1st Step - "We were powerless of Alcohol - that our lives have become unmanageable"

So Happy to see you coming to that conclusion. Going to a AA Meeting everyday, is the Best Insurance Policy you can take out in this new surrendering and beginning again. It is not easy, but it is very Simple, getting to a meeting everyday, not drinking in between. Hope so much that you check that out.

Interesting through, how when we are about to become winners, regaining our lifes, that we feel like losers, strange paradox. Most of us start out with that Incomprehensible Demolization, I here that so many times from people that have some time and talk about " how it was in the beginning".

There is a great story in the AA big Book, about the Jaywalker, check that out some time. I sure could relate to it. You said that you had tried a couple of times before,
my own story was a couple to times, times 20, every friggen time was so much worse than before, I wouldn't recommend that to my worst enemy. That's how bad it gets.

Hope you stay here and let us know how you are doing, o.k.

A Great Big Hug,

Toni

This program works, if you work it.

Keep it simple:

Don't drink today

Go to meetings

Talk to other Alcoholics

Pray-even if you don't have a clue 'who' or 'what' you are praying to.

and KEEP COMING BACK!

hugs,

Dana

The good news is, everything you learned in those 3 months you still have.  The good news for me in that was It was not LOST, I'd just forgotten!

You are being "brutally honest" about your problem, and your issues old friend.  Stay that way, it is very important toward you recovery.

PS.  DanaBanana's post here couldn't have put it simpler or better.

It gets better, often even when it seems like it can't-

Meetings, prayer, calling + hanging out w/ AA people, a sponsor, working steps, helping others- These things have helped me a lot over the past 8.5 months-
