Appropriate to be here?

Hello All,

I wanted to introduce myself as I have been doing some reading on the board, and have so far been able to get alot from the posts that I have read.

I have been a member of alanon for almost 6 years and have been with my alcoholic for 9 years. I have attend many AA and NA meetings (he is also an addict). When he is actively working a program we are surrounded by people in 12 step programs and I have always found the perspective from the other side of the fence very useful for my program. Especially when talking about the 12 steps. I  have my understanding from working them as an alanon, but the understanding of the steps by those in other programs has helped me work them better.

I believe having attended AA and NA helps me to seperate my dear husband from the disease that consumes him. As he is not choosing to work a program at this time and hasn't for about 2 years; I have been finding myself slipping in that regard. And am searching for tools in helping me to seperate him from his disease. As he gets deeper and deeper in it there is less of him and more and more of the disease.

As the perfect co-dependent that I am I wanted to make sure that it was appropriate for me to be here as I am not an alcoholic myself as my wish is to not offend anyone. I am not here to "bash" anyone just simply seeking knowledge, tools, and recovery.

Thank you all for sharing your ESH with eachother. I am so grateful that there is a place for my "A" to come when he is ready for the program again. The service you are providing eachother and the new comers is greatly appreciated.

Yours in Recovery,

Dolphin123 (Mandy)

Hi Mandy,

Of course it's okay to be here. I find that it does me good to hear the perspectives of the folks in alanon; reminds me of just how selfish my disease can make me if I'm not careful. Yes, sobriety comes before everything/one else, but I need to take those cleated shoes off when I'm stepping on toes sometimes. I for one welcome you here as I know everyone else will. There are other alanons here also. So stay and share, warmly Wren

Hi Mandy,

Welcome to this super Forum. I have recently joined it, being an alcoholic, and I have found some wonderful people and some great advice here. I can never have enough tools and help.

Take care,

Carol

I visit here all the time and I am in alanon.  In fact, I have worked steps with AA members here.  I have picked up so much knowledge, understanding here that I cannot always get in alanon.  And it goes with saying, wherever those who gather to share, there is also God/Higher Power.

I can go to an open AA meeting, and every time, the Step the speaker mentions is always the one I need to be looking at----or if it was the most instrumental step in that AA's life, it somehow becomes an instrumental turning point in mine-----it has never failed! ! !   Talk about mysterious and a miracle!

(All I know, is my bottom was lower than my A's.)  Keep coming back~ ~ !

This is an open forum, kinda like an ongoing meeting... WELCOME!!!!

I personally think the entire planet could benefit from the 12 steps!!!

I have peeked in on the AlAnon site a few times to recall what people in my life had to go through... really is humbling and good for me at times.

Glad to have you aboard!!
