Wow, last night did I ever have a big craving to drink.  It came out of the blue and for no reason at all.  I was not sad as a matter of fact I was happy.  I tell you if someone would have offered me a drink, I just might have taken it.  I did however use my tools and talk to another recovering person and I drank a cup of coffee.  Low and behold tonight at the woman's meeting someone brought up the topic of cravings and I spoke up too.  It's so wierd how cravings pop up out of the blue.  I was very greatful to be sober this morning and felt a bit of shame for having such a craving and wanting to drink.  I also spoke up about how I feel afraid to talk at meetings at times for fear of some one taking my inventory.  Lots of people have the same fear.  I get nervous when I speak heck even when I post here.  Low self esteem I guess.  I also have a learning disorder that makes it to where I do not spell all that great unless I look up each and every work in a dictionary and that takes so long to do.  At any rate, I had a good meeting and the cravings have passed. I'll have two years in a little over a month,so it's not that i'm newly sober.  It must be the time of year too because I use to love to drink beer and lay outside by the pool.  I'll have to watch myself and talk more about how I feel so I don't get that bad again.

Hmmmm..

I'm glad you shared that!! The beauty of it is that it did indeed pass, as it does, and that you din't cave in to it. I know you have to be feeling pretty good today because of it!!

Maybe this was just a way to get you "talking"...? Coincidence???

Congratulations on getting through a bump in the road!!

Hi Zoomie,

Thanks for your post. It really helps me to know that I am not the only one who still gets bad cravings. Whenever they happen to me, I always sit and read some AA literature or 'phone somebody else in AA.

I went for a long walk recently and as I was getting home there was a large poster advertising beer. Even though I was never a beer drinker, my sick, alcoholic mind still kicked in and gave me no peace for an hour or so.

But, I didn't drink, and I learned from that and felt stronger afterwards.

Thank you for sharing.

Take care,

Carol

Hi Zoomie,

Wow dear, and good for you just talking about it. I never get cravings anymore, but that sometimes scares me, if that makes any sense.

Talking about it helps so much.

I just came back from a meeting where this man, that I have seen so many times, always a good positive message about the Program, pretty sure he had a lot of time,
but today he sat there with his head down, looking so very sad, as he had raised his hand as a newcomer. I just felt so so bad for him, gave him a big hug, and we talked after the meeting.

There were a few people in this meeting that were really struggling, and my heart just went out to all of them.

Zoomie, when we stop and think that only 30 some years ago, no one had a place to go and get better, we are so very fortunate that we have AA now.

This Disease that we all share here is so very Cunning, Baffling, and POWERFUL, I need to remember that on a daily basis.

I see you as someone doing so well, you surprised me when you said you felt nervous when talking in the meetings. And in here as well, you are such a Big part of this WE - MIP 12 Step Forum.

A Giant Big Hug to you,

toni
