A.A. also stands for Attitude Adjustment and it is not just about living life without alcohol - it is about living life sober. With this program it can be done as said in previous replies.

I always chuckle when a newcomer joins us and wants to tweak the program for us, because they just know how much better it could be if only...
I chuckle because I came in the same way. I just knew why certain things wouldn't work for me. And I just knew why certain things would work better for you if you would just listen to me.
I lasted 9 months like that, then had a sip of vodka. Yep, that was my impressive "slip". I call it my convincer, because the one thing I wanted to do more than anything else was to not drink, and it was the one thing I was unable to do.
Since that time I learned to take the suggestions, even if I didn't believe they would work. Because I saw that my way clearly did not work and a lot of you had found something that did. I think had it been suggested that the only way to stay sober was to run down the middle of Main Street buck naked, I would have done it. Thankfully it wasn't!
Instead of picking apart everything I didn't think would work for me, I just started trying the suggestions. Instead of arguing every point, I just started doing.
Here's the amazing thing - IT WORKED!!!!!! All without the opinions and arguments and tweaking of Karen!
Today I love the program of Alcoholics Anonymous just as it is. Without it, I would be likely still drinking, definitely still miserable and without a life. A lot of people say that AA saved their lives. AA gave me my life.
