I thought cutting and pasteing this Part of a new Law that was just passed by the Senate in Mexico, was so, well unbelievable! ------------------------------------------------------------------ The bill says criminal charges will no longer be brought for possession of up to 25 milligrams of heroin, five grams of marijuana (about one-fifth of an ounce, or about four joints), and half a gram of cocaine - about half the standard street-size quantity, which is enough for several lines of the drug.
``No charges will be brought against ... addicts or consumers who are found in possession of any narcotic for personal use,'' according to the Senate bill, which also lays out allowable quantities for a large array of other drugs, including LSD, MDA, ecstasy - about two pills' worth, - and amphetamines.
Some of the amounts are eye-popping: Mexicans would be allowed to possess 2.2 pounds of peyote, the button-sized hallucinogenic cactus used in some native Indian religious ceremonies.
Mexican law now leaves open the possibility of dropping charges against people caught with drugs if they are considered addicts and if ``the amount is the quantity necessary for personal use.'' But the exemption isn't automatic.
The new bill drops the ``addict'' requirement - automatically allowing any "consumers'' to have drugs - and sets out specific allowable quantities.
It's on the front page for you that use AOL. My take, so any active addict, or NOW, anyone that is not an addict, NO criminal charges will be brought against anyone in possession of "personal use" quantities of Pot, LSD, Heroin, Cocaine, and Ectasy.
I live 45 minutes from the Mexican border and it really SCARES me what the implications of this new Law will do to the Drug Traffic going to and from this close border. I would imagine it will bring a 'Boom' to the Real Estate in the area, imagine how many addicts would want to live 20 to 40 minutes away from what some addicts would call.... Narvana.
Having access to these "personal use" of these drugs, WITH NO CONSEQUENCES attached is mind boggling. And if they do not risk Proscecution, how will anyone ever be forced to turn in their Dealers??....The people the Mexican Government CLAIMS they are only interested in catching.......I don't get it!!!
Mind Boggling, I would really like to hear from any of you on your take on this new law.
This is a tough one- I can see both sides of the argument. For the prohibition side, what kind of message does it send to children and the people to legalize more addictive poisons than are already legal?
From the legalize side, doesn't prohibition vastly empower huge criminal cartels that use torture, murder, bribery and extortion, and cost the government billions upon billions of dollars in law enforcement and keeping millions of prisoners in jail, not to mention the tax dollars lost to monstrous criminal enterprises?
That's just scary. That's like me driving to Chicago to get drugs,45 min. away, not to mention the fact that it's legal. I don't really understand why a government would do that in this day and age.
