I went to see a Chiropractor today , he ran some tests on me but refused to treat me as he thinks I have a damaged disk and will need surgery to correct it. At least he was honest. Rob
Hi there, using my gratitude list to make myself not get into self pity. I tried meditating with candles last night it was really nice. I would recommend it to any one.
I looked up some info on tens machines and found this: Precautions:
1. TENS devices should be used with caution where the cause of the pain has not been established. 2. TENS stimulation is of no curative value. That is, TENS does not do anything to the underlying cause of the pain. 3. Treatment outcome (with TENS ) will be influenced by the cause of the pain, the patient's psychological state and use of medication. 4. TENS should be kept out of the reach of children. 5. Electrical stimulation over the carotid sinus, i.e. anywhere over the front of the neck, may be hazardous.
Well I am going to sit in front of the candle and do the end of day routine.
I must admit I am enjoying this site. My sponcer is going through step two with me at the mo, so I may need to speak to you guys regarding that, when it comes to AA I want the full package deal.
I dont just want to be sober I want to be sober and happy.
the chiropractor says it is a lumber disk he thinks is wrong, he showed me two disk models one healthy and one not. the one not had the inner part leaking out the side and that is what he suspects with me. as for a disk protrusion I really do not know, he just refused and explained why he did the sticking pins in me and seeing if I could feel it, he did reflexes and leg raises, also resistance tests he did not get me to walk on my toes and heals;
I have had pains in the mid back for 3 years every day, today is bad that is why i booked in.to see the chiropractor I get it when sat down, it is basically the disks coming out in the mid and lower abck, also shooting pains down the leg. , there is far more leg pain now and it goes out of place on the hip joint too. my back is in worse condition now and I have been having treatment for all this time, it is more frequent, a year ago I could see a oestiopath and three days later I am in agony again, now it is more like three mins, when I sit down or something. it eases with heat I find;I feel I am getting worse. I forst saw a physio who manipulated and gave me excersizes, that did not work so I saw and oestiopath for about a year and a half and it worked for a while but progressivly got worse. then I was refered by my GP to see a nhs physio therapist who did not touch me, she just gave me exercises to do which did not work, then I went back to the same oestiopath to find my back getting ever worse, then I went to another oestiopath who only did gentle manipulation, which made no difference at all to how I felt and my back would still be out when I had done, then I was refered to hospital who set up an oestiopath who again only manipulates me softly, so I am still out of place and getting very very sore, then I had a bad episode where I was rushed to A+E that is how I got my MRI, I begged for years to my GP but he said there is nothing wrong with me, he even suggested I take up jogging!!!! I await my MRI results still.. Then today I had hit rock bottom and thought I have got to get this sorted and went to a chiropractor who said that my case is too poor to work on and he is 90% sure I will need a diskeptami ??
I am really fed up of this bad back - I made a desision that unless it was sorted my xmas 2005 I was going to jump off a bridge, that is how bed it got, so the gp now gives me lots of Prozac.. if you can advise me any further it would be great.
I have used Tens machines in the past, and was thinking of purchasing one for my neck and back, so I can probably purchase from this site, I copied the site to my bookmarks.
hey, Phil.. if it was just between you two it would be in private message,,, and I'm not your mommy, thank God. lol I am in the medical field though, and looked the stuff up and shared it. why the hostility?

Robert,,, when a disc protrudes out like that it is called a 'herniated disc',, and if the disc pops and explodes it is called a 'ruptured disc'. There are different like degrees of how much leaking and protrusion the disc can do. If it slips off to the side it can pinch the spinal nerves there,, which cause the symptoms down the leg. Sometimes the doctors do a spinal fusion,,, they take the disc out,,, discotomy,,, and fuse those two vertebrae together. I have some stenosis in my lower back,, caused by arthritis,,, stenosis means that the holes where the nerves go through are constricted and pinch the nerves,,, so I get pain going down my legs too. The main nerve going down the leg is the sciatic nerve and when that is affected is is called 'sciatica'.
But we, on this site, are not qualified to do a diagnosis of your condition, or its treatment,,, even if we were doctors we would have to see you and the reports first, eh? We do really empathize with your pain, and would like to help you,, but we have to remember our limitions. I do hope that the medical people there do some things that really help you,,, and maybe the tens machine is one of those things that you and your doctor can discuss. Meanwhile,, I'll keep you in prayer.
toni,,, I noticed you said you want to use it on your neck... please note the cautions about using it on the neck,, k?
love in recovery,
amanda
