Come And Take My Hand
Permalink

When darkness closed upon me
you took my hand and said
'Won't you come and walk with me,
I don't want to see you dead.'
So I took your hand and said
I'd walk with you a ways;
You seemed to have the hope I lacked
to get me through my days.
The days have turned to months
and the months have turned to years
Yet still you walk beside me
as I learn to face my fears.
I still must face the moments
When in darkness I can't stand
And I still hear you say to me
'Come and take my hand.'

That last poem was borrowed...

This ones mine....and I share it with you...from my heart...and give thanks to a God of my understanding....for sobriety today..

-------------------------------------------

I have walked the road of death

With alcohol by my side

Destruction was abundant

But with it, I could hide.

I yearned for just a simple life

With someone by my side

To be happy and to love

But in the end I cried

I became a person

That I never wished to be

The alcohol addiction

Was all that I could see.

One day in 1985

I looked towards the sky

I screamed "If there is a God"

Let me live, or let me die.

He took my hand that day

And said, "Your life begins once more"

He lead me through the AA doors

I was beaten to the core.

In those rooms I learned to live

And learned to love again

This time I did it sober

I had to surrender, to win....... pld

--------------

HAVE A GOOD DAY...

Hi Phil,

This is beautiful, and so, very, very true!  Reminds me of those times in my life, where a strong sense of Faith is elusive, and hold on tight to Blind Faith, (like a storm that has just turned the electricity and lights off) until a stronger sense of my Higher Power, whom I choose to call God returns to everyday life.  Reminds me of the FootSteps Prayer, too.   Thank you.

God Bless you.

Toni

Hi Phil,  Went back and saw that you added your own Poem, also very beautiful, thank you for sharing it with us. So glad to see you are strongly on the mend, and feeling better.
