Desperation, Hope and a Higher Power

Three ingredients that contributed to me getting sober and finding recover. The gift of desperation, to be alive and to live, sick and tired of being sick and tired, and wanting to live my life differently, having a new life to live. And at my first meeting I felt that flicker of hope. Hoping that this way, the AA way, would work for me. And in time, finding a Higher Power. At first it was AA, for I could see real live people who had some joy, peace and happiness in their lives, and I wanted the same thing for me. In time I came up with my own idea of what my Higher Power would be like, and I had chosen to call Him God. And with the help of a Loving God, and a man who God had put in my life to guide me, I began the process of the 12 Steps of Recovery. And I found that there is a sloution and I found a new design for living. A way of living that I never thought I was capable of.

Today I have a good life and I live a good life. I wouldn't trade it in for anything. Truely, a priceless gift. If someone gave me a gift of a lot of money, I wouldn't give it back. If someone gave me a gift of jewelry, of gold and diamonds, I wouldn't give it back. If someone gave me a corvette as a gift (please do), I wouldn't give it back. Well God gave me a gift of a better way to live life. Why would I want to give it back.

What we are is a gift from God. What we make of ourselves, is our gift to Him.
