Many people when they are alcoholic also suffer from malnutrition. Remember the feelings of can't eat, don't want to eat (because it reduces the effects of the alcohol), living alone, can't be bothered cooking or just don't know how to. Money too short to waste on food, I'll get the required calories from a bottle of whisky????
Cooking is fun, if your single, inviting a potential partner for a for a decent home cooked meal is far better than suggesting a trip to the drivethrough!
Unlimited experimenting, learning through mistakes (In the early days, keep a frozen pizza or two handy!)
I really understand the reason for the AA cookbook and will be putting some more suggestions in soon.
Give it a go, there is more to life than a greasy fry up with a bad head!
Hope you are all well
Bye for now
Chris.

I dont cook much because of drink.. i do try to eat alot.. because i was told by doctor coupleof years ago that if drink instead of eat that the alcohol will eat my liver.. so i alwasy try to eat alot.. even if its munching on crisps (patato chips to americans) through the night.. only prob withthat is more dehydrated nxt day cos of salt..
But wen i have got abit sober. i like trying to cook things and iv found my self esteem rises alot.. cos its like im taking care of myself.. and the more i do for myself hte greater my confidence in myself is.... i was chuffed to bits first time i cooked pasta!!!! and how easy is that.. its like i created the meal myself even though i followed instructions and added premaid sauce..
but once back on drink its ready meals and kebabs.. i find kebabs best cos its such a big meal that drink doenst mess me up so much and i wake up less pissed the next day..
My diet when drinking- Salt and vinegar potato chips (crisps), pretzels, alcohol, maybe pizza...
My diet when I've been sober lately- [mostly organic:] brown rice, beans, broccoli, green peppers, loose leaf tea, vitamins, tofu, mushrooms, olive oil, yogurt, whole wheat pasta (I like Bionaturae and Azzurro, both from Italy), soy milk, frozen berry smoothies, and I use lots of chilli, curry powders and soy sauce-
Quite a contrast... suitable metaphor for much of the rest of my life too-
And good thoughts in this Post. Love good healthy food, love to cook, love my veggies.
I do enjoy meals better when I share them, but because I live alone, I still focus on real good food, "We are what we eat" has always been in the back of my mind. Lots of water too, part of Recovery, Clean up our livers, and clean up our health. Amen to all you said.
I have to be Rigerously Honest, once in a while, maybe one a month, break down, and call Domino's Pizza. Dinner and lunch with cold pizza, oh Well Progress, not Perfection. HA hA.
So good to see you here, wish you had more time for MIP, you always bring so much cheer and a great feeling when I see you.
