Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
--Mother Goose

Poor Humpty ended up such a scrambled egg. Maybe that's what comes from sitting too long in one place, choosing neither this way nor that, playing both sides against the middle. Maybe he played too much politics, got too much advice, had too much to think about. When the centipede was asked which leg he first moved when setting out on a stroll, he got those legs all tangled in his mind and couldn't walk at all. It is better to be simply moved by those around us, or by our Higher Power, with faith and love. When our thoughts fail, their hearts, hands, and eyes will show the way.

Do I sometimes decide my fate by refusing to decide?

No human creature can give orders to love.
--George Sand

If we're trying to get others to love us, all we're really doing is trying to be in control. Trying to control others can be a powerful drug. Remember, we can't control others. We can't make others love us. Our Higher Power has control, not us.

So, what do we need to do? Turn things over to our Higher Power and just be ourselves. Sure, it can scare us to just be ourselves. The truth is, not everyone will love us. But if we're honest about who we are, others will respect us. We'll like ourselves better. And we'll have a better chance of loving others and being loved.

Prayer for the Day

I pray to have my need for control lifted from me. I pray to be rid of self-will.

Action for the Day

Today, I'll list five ways my self-will -- my need to control -- has gotten me in trouble.

Right on Rick, In early sobriety I was so scared, had no sober friends, and was jsut paralyzed.  A wise friend said, "no decision is a decision".  And that made sense in my befuddled mind.  Soooooooooo, I started making some, and learning to live with the consequences.  screwed up sometimes, but, did some good things too.  the more I made the further ahead my life went.
Will never forget that feeling of being stuck. I thiink it has something to do with the self discipline that we as alcoholics have to learn to deal with.  Using alcohol kept us from being self disciplined, and now we have to learn how again. it is scary.  The trick is to not get stuck.

Thanks for all your posts, look forward to them.

Peace and joy to all today.
