I got sober in 2006, and stayed that way until 2012 when I herniated multiple discs in neck and got on pain pills. I could barely move my arms and was in serious pain. I had a 3 level fusion and stayed on the pain pills for nearly 2 years after the surgery. Finally I had enough, quit taking the pain pills and low and behold! started drinking again. I had put down all my tools, let my coping skills get rusty, and blamo. I have been drinking sometimes very heavily now since 2014 and I keep trying to quit. The usual, demoralized, filled with shame and guilt, worried about my health, and VERY worried about my job. I work in mental health and I could loose my license if I am found out to be abusing alcohol.
I know I am not special, I am an alcoholic. I need a place where I can be completely honest about my use, my fears. I am hoping this is the place.
WE are here, one helping another in a loving and caring manner. You stated you got sober in 2006 and stayed until 2012 but you didn't state if you had a sponsor during that period ,worked daily in the SOLUTION,the STEPS applied in all areas of your life and if you were emaking meetings.WE have found that those who value sponsorship get the most from the Program. We also always suggest making meetings .You are back where you need to be with the 1st STEP of admission and acceptance and reaching out for help.I am glad you made it back, many do not ,,stick around WE NEED YOU..IN THOUGHT AND PRAYER....Hope to hear more from you....I could only suggest to do what Medical people can help you with also..WE know(as you are aware when we are following doctors prescriptions or sliding over to using..)WE share a common Illness, together WE can help each other.....Start again,by putting down the substance,,so the healing can begin again and take it One day at a time again,,,

Glad to have you come to this forum. Keep being honest with yourself and you will have a good start in recovery. We are just like you. You are just like us. Stick around.
Looking for a place to be completely honest about your drinking? Online forum is a good supplement once you've made a start in AA, but I'd recommend calling the AA General Service office in your town and find a meeting near you. You'll find some women there to help you get started.

Welcome to MIP Sarah, ... glad to have you here with us ...
It's good to see you have enough sense to look for help now instead of later ... unfortunately, pain pills are sometimes necessary to get us through a 'medical situation' we didn't ask for, and to separate ourselves from the temptation to continue the pills long after the situation has past isn't easy ... We just have to go back to our roots in the AA program and reaffirm our desire to remain sober ... noth'n works better than close work with another alcoholic ... it puts everything into perspective ...
Love ya and God Bless, Pappy
