There is a monster who lives in my head, He talks to me softly he wants me dead.

He tells me this time I'll stay in control. He tells me not to let anyone know.

He convinces me that no one cares, He whispers the pain is to much to bear.

He tells me how wonderful I will feel. He tells me he loves me and it is real.

He tells me not to call anyone, My heart starts racing, he tells me it will be fun.

He tells me not to think of past times, He promises I can do it just once this time

Who is this monster who calls me by name, RELAPSE, he's waiting to start the game.

The Climb
by Emma Nurton

Climbing up a mountain,
Pulling yourself higher and
higher.
Out of the pit of misery.
Things seem to look brighter.
Grass is growing, Birds are
singing,
And the sun emerges from the
clouds.
Then you start to slip,
To lose your grasp,
And down you fall.
Not quite to the bottom,
Just teetering on a ledge,
Could you go over at any moment
Have you the strength to climb
again?
The pain of your cut soul
Burns like a fire,
The anger, hurt and frustration
Come flooding back into your
mind.
The fight for survival starts
again.
Overcome the fear,
Search for the holds,
Rely on the support from before.
I know it's going to be difficult,
But you did it once,
You can do it again.
Remember, you're not the only
one -
Out there are other climbers
Fighting their own battles,
Searching their own soul
And conquering their own
mountains.

I think I've played enough of that game. I'm looking forward to my meeting here in an hour.

That poem is too real. The monster is out there lurking for my weakest moment.

well..  there it is...  yep... that monster hardly ever shuts up...  even after all this time. Sometimes I argue with it,,, sometimes I try to ignore it,,, what works best is to get to a meeting,,,  pick up the phone,,,  post on here,,,   but not to stay alone with it, cuz it is very persuasive and perserverant,,  cunning, baffling,,,  waiting.

I'm glad there were people who helped me in the climb back up,,,  who didn't just say 'something wrong with you, and gloat, feeling all superior'.

teetering on the ledge

love in recovery,

hey Phil, where do you find this stuff, I enjoy it!  I've never been one for poems, but sometimes they just touch your lives when you need it.  Thanks!
