Once in my life....

Once in my life when I was small

I would sleep on the floor at the end of the hall.

It was cooler there and I could lie awake

Thinking all the things in life it would take.

To become what I wanted to be,

never happened, to a guy like me.

My drinking started at an early age,

And often I went into a rage.

Striking out here and striking out there,

One drink and I didn’t care.

This went on for many years.

A lot of heartaches, a lot of tears.

A lot of confusion, a lot of hate,

Wondering if ever I  would  awake.

Fear of living fear of dying.

A lot of pain from not even trying.

Then came the day I couldn’t stop

Drank all I had to the very last drop.

I shouted at heaven and I knew very well

That nobody cared, I’d lived in hell.

And a voice said to me on that very day,

Pick up the phone, call AA.

That’s why I’m here I hope I can stay

God sent me to you and told me to pray

You taught me how and now I’m sober,

My drinking day’s I pray are over.

Amen

Hi Phil,

Did you write that, it is a beautiful Poem.

And I agree,  all of our little dreams of what life would hold when we were free of our miserable little childhoods.   Well it was sad, that those little ghosts from our Past, were not left behind, as we believed they would be,

They sent us on our Careers, eh?

In Thirties, didn't see any ads for: Female, That Really like to Drink.

In my Forties, could never find an ad that Read: Female, someone that  will be able to disguise her hang-overs pretty well during Business Hours.

And in my Mid Forties,  Really never could find anything that Required a Black-Out Drinker, someone with a very stong Relationship to Alcohol, that lives for the next drink.

Well life did not turn out to be those hopes and dreams of our Youth, but Thank God we know how to not Dwell on the Past, and make the most of our Time left here on earth, feeling at some level, that we are contributing something in this world, don't know exactly what that is really, Just ask for Guidance from God to show me everyday, how to and what to do, to better my life today.  That's all that we get, today, and know how to just enjoy a good day, when then show up,   past is dead and gone now.

Don't have to figure out any of it.

Thanks for those thoughts, Dear.

I'm am still just Baloney Brains - today.  But I accept it.   HaHa

Thanks Phil!  Loved it!

I was at a meeting recently and the speaker shared with a whisper..."God guided me to AA, so ya'll could guide me back to Him".

How true that is for me too.

John
